Looking for a new program

I've been doing AllPro's SBR for several months on a deficit and will soon be finishing cycle 4. I am 1 lb. from my goal weight and plan to lose the recommended 5 lbs. extra. I would like to change to something with fewer reps per set, maybe a 3X5 or 5X5. I have a couple things in mind, including StrongLifts, but am open to suggestions.

you can't go wrong with either of those programs, but it really depends on what your lifting goals are.
  • I'm starting Kris Gethins 12 week program on Monday! Looks good. Anyone else done it?

Like danimalkeys mentioned, it really depends on your goals.

I ran Stronglifts for about 7 months and then did a bit of Nia Shanks Beautiful Badass and Now I'm about to start weeks 9-12 of Bret Contreras Strong Curves (the advanced programming). I love love love it :)

    1. I want to get stronger.
    2. I want to lower my bfp, although I have no idea what it is currently...I want what giggle I have left to firm up.
    3. I want my butt to lift up, firm up and round out. It's flat and squishy. :blushing:
    4. I would love to flatten my tummy...i know that involves more dieting.

I guess that's my main goals.

    You mean http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/kris-gethin-12-week-daily-trainer.html ?

I'm not doing it but Kris Gethin's programmes, including this one, are not really for beginners or intermediates trainees. I don't really know who they're aimed at, but would hazard a guess that they're for enhanced bodybuilders. I would assume that Mr Gethin has used a lot of apple juice himself. His younger cousin Adam is quite popular on Facebook and he seems like a great guy and not like Kris at all.

I took a look at it too and I agree that it does look like a bodybuilding program. With that being said though, as long as you have some element of progressive overload in there, you should see some sort of results.

I would not recommend this for a beginner/novice as it is a split, and it is not a good split imo.

I've been quite busy finishing up my master's degree so I've only been training 3 days a week most of the time, but by the time I finish this cycle of AP I will be able to do it frequently...4-6 days a week if necessary.

Can you clarify why you would like to move to lower rep training and/or why you would like to move away from All Pros? Are your lifts going up on All Pros (are you following the recommended increases as you progress?)

I'm getting tired of the same thing month after month and would like to try something different. However, my main reason is I would like to lift heavier and that's difficult when I have to do so many reps.

Yes, I'm following the recommended increases but that is getting increasing difficult to manage. I have already failed a couple of lifts this cycle in the first two weeks. :(

I asked my husband for a personal training package for Christmas but I don't know if he's going to get it for me because he grumbled about how expensive it is at the gym I belong to. A gym I joined Sept. 17 and have never used... I don't really need to with AP because I have everything I need at home. My gym is full of beautiful machines, free weight and cardio equipment, yet I always just walk upstairs because I don't need any of that with AP. Well, that and because I've been crazy busy with school but that's almost over now. :) With all the free time I will have once I graduate and I will be at my goal weight by then (I only have .4 to go) I want to step it up and work on developing some muscles!

Strong lifts would fit your criteria. You alternate workouts A and B three days a week and progressively load weight each workout. It would help with your butt since you squat every workout. However, it is repetitive. There are 2 workouts A and B. Workout A is; Squats, Overhead Press, Deadlifts, pullups. Workout B is; Squats, Bench Press, Barbell Rows, Dips.

You might get bored with it quickly but if you stick to it, you'll get results. It doesn't look to be vastly different than the App Pro program though.

Yes, I'm somewhat familiar with StrongLifts and that is one of the programs I'm considering. In fact, I had strongly considered it before I began All Pro.

I was really responding for the OPs benefit re beginner/novice as the thread was about recommendations for her.

It's still a terrible split imo however.
