Hi Team,
In this topic, I am going to post articles I think you will find informative, useful, interesting, or that will challenge your diet & exercise paradigms. I had a totally awesome, formal post written up before I started linking to articles, but I clicked "back" on accident and it was deleted If I had the time, I would write about these topics in my own articles, but this will have to suffice for now.
Just keep in mind that these articles are written by authors with their own perspectives on diet and exercise, and their views don't necessarily represent mine or others involved with 12WWL. Take the information, and use it to become more open-minded to ideas when it comes to diet and exercise. In my opinion, there aren't many other fields that are more needlessly complex than health, fitness, and nutrition. I'm sure you hear a new "secret" to fat loss almost every day. Remember that with most things in life, the answer lies somewhere in the middle of the extremes (right next to moderation). One of my favorite quotes related to this topic: "Every diet works. But not for everyone. And not forever."
Just promise me you won't hitch your wagon to any fad diets or exercise regime's, okay?
Article #1: Research Review - A Calorie Isn't A Calorie, by Helen Kollias
http://www.precisionnutrition.com/digesting-whole-vs-processed-foods
Summary: Eat Whole (Real) Food, especially protein and fiber containing foods.
Limitations: One-sided argument, scope of article focuses on weight loss for a certain population, bias of author presenting own research
Article #2: How to not over eat during a holiday feast, by Armi Legge
http://impruvism.com/holiday-feast/
Summary: 12 tips to limit your calories over Holiday's while still enjoying yourself. Make better bad decisions!
Homework: Come up with your own ideas to limit calories.
Limitations: Who has time to read all 82 of the references??
Article #3: 5 Steps to Becoming a Flexible Dieter, by Armie Legge
http://impruvism.com/flexible-dieting-steps/
Summary: Make the least amount of changes in your life to lose the most amount of weight; eat foods that keep you full & happy; sensibly indulge (don't over-restrict!); form lasting eating habits; 80/20 rule. If these ideas don't sound familiar by now, I haven't been doing enough talking!
Limitations: There are a lot of opinions in this article, even though the resounding message is pretty clear: moderation!
Feel free to post in this topic if you have any questions or if you found any readings (articles, blogs, research articles, etc) or other resources you would like to share.
Have a great Thanksgiving and keep up the awesome work.
