No fat diet = processed stuff?

I have been diagnosed with gallstones and I was told by the doctor to stick with a no fat diet to avoid painful flare ups.
The problem I see is that most no fat substitutes are a mess of processed and unhealthy foods. They add a ton of sugar so now my sugar intake is going off the chart.
If I go for healthy fats I end up in higher calories. If I go for fat in general I take a chance of being in the most intense amount of pain I've ever experienced in my life. If I go for no fat I have to accept there will likely be a ton of sugar.
I feel like I'm in a no win situation.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would do some research on that recommendation, for one your body does need some dietary fat to be healthy, no way around it.
For another I've known plenty that can still have adequate intake, but it's the mix of foods and timing that can help or hurt.
Don't do the magic cures sites, but MedLine, WebMD, others with articles written by Dr's that may be more realistic than yours. That advice sounded like an easy out recommendation. Maybe it wasn't, but sure sounds like it.0 -
I actually wondered that myself.
Some of the research I did suggested the gallstones are caused from not eating fat which results in the bile becoming hard because it isn't being used. I'm not 100% sure on that since this information was gathered online. But if that is the case, isn't a no fat diet going to make my gallstones worse? I have over a dozen.
I have cheated out of frustration a few times and had a high fat food item. I had a burger just last night and no problems at all. However, having a high fat lunch and then a high fat dinner when I was already full set me off.
I'll do more research.0 -
More recent research has shown it was the up and down nature of diets. With the reason you mention.
I went through a no fat phase when that was the popular thing, carb only almost, back in late '80, early '90's.
So i was concerned after a friend had some.
it appears to take more abuse than just once, though of course genetics could make it easier or harder.
So yes, some constant fat to keep the bile flowing is what I'd seen.
I'm betting there is some minimal limits you could start with to see if really effected. And then based on that research as to real cause for it, you can see what remedies are along those lines.
Obviously something like a grapefruit diet won't be useful, but there may be something more useful to effect an improvement, not just living with.
At least that would be nicer.0
