Chantix

Started Chantix 5 days ago! I have 2 more days left to smoke before I NEVER smoke another cigarette for the rest of my life. It's a good feeling. I'm excited, but on the other hand, I've heard some people didn't want to smoke by the 2nd day. I'm on day 5 and still want to smoke...but I'm not giving in this time. I told myself I'd quit on my 30th birthday (a month and a half ago) so time is up! Has anyone else used Chantix successfully? 2 guys I work with did and that's why I got it. They smoked for about 20 years. I've been smoking for 12. :frown:

I used Chantix to help quit, and have been smoke free for a year. It took me about 4 days to want to quit. But the nurse told me that for some, it can take 2 weeks or more. I smoked for about 12 years as well. This also depends on how dependant you were on it. I was at about 1/2 a pack a day. And for some, Chantix just doesn't work. There is a guy who works with me who wanted to quit, but Chantix didn't work for him so he is trying something else now.0

I'm not sure how/if it is working for me. I still haven't quit yet and I'm on Day 11. I have definitely slowed down a lot though. Hopefully I'm one of those people who takes "2 weeks or more" like you said...I want to quit but I don't at the same time. I was also about a 1/2 a pack a day, sometimes a pack a day if I went out drinking. So I'm trying to change that lifestyle around altogether. (The drinking and smoking). We'll see...0

I want to quit but I don't at the same time.
You need to get that changed to you -want- to quit all the time. That is how I was for the longest time, wanted to quit but didn't want to at the same time. Thus why I smoked for 12 years. You have to want it more than anything. And now that I run, just the thought of how much just one cigarette could harm my running helps to dodge any craving I might get. Make it your # 1 goal, and it will happen. You can take all the medicine in the world, but until you are truly 100% ready your chances of success are slim.0 -
You're very right. People keep saying "You'll do it when you're ready" but I still don't feel 100% ready even with taking Chantix. Honestly I don't feel I'll ever truly be ready or want to until it's "too late"...I'm trying but...definitely having some issues. Thank you!0

How is the quitting going Lauren?0

Well, to be honest, it didn't work very well for me yet, but I'm going to do it today and start up the Chantix again. I really want to get healthy and I know I can't exercise at my potential if I can't breathe. With 40lbs to lose, exercising and losing the weight has to come first before smoking...
ETA: I think my schedule has impeded on my success with quitting. The Chantix does make me a little nauseous when I take it on an empty stomach...and I can't eat right away when I wake up...it takes me a few hours to get hungry. (I work 2PM-10PM). So all that time the Chantix isn't in my system and I would smoke in the mornings/afternoons until I took the pill. I knew I wasn't doing it correctly so I stopped and decided to try again. I do believe if I had used it correctly the whole time that I would have been able to quit successfully.0 -
Keep trying. Took me several times trying to quit cold turkey before I knew that wasn't helping. If this doesn't help the second time around, I would go back to your doctor and talk to them about it and see if there is something else you can try. Keep trying, you will get there.0
