Kim, I usually walk at a 4.2 - 4.3 pace (I am a fast walker by nature). So, during my intervals I've been bumping it up to 6.0-6.3 to run for 2-3 minutes. So, I kind of do a little interval training. I find it kind of helps break the boringness of the treadmill. LOL. I do need to focus on endurance though because if I tried going over 3 minutes, that is just not happening...at least not at 6.0!
Sydney, I'm glad you can relate! And Kim is right about someone pushing you though. I get too competitive and secretly try to beat them in my mind...then I just end up way exhausted. :ohwell:0 -
Alright....I've been fu*King around with 3D surfaces in AutoCAD all day and my head is about to explode. This may call for a run to the wine store tonight......0
-
I used to run 5 miles a day but my knees would sometimes ache after so I stopped because I know how bad it is for ones joints and I always looked at exercise as something that's supposed to improve your body not break it down. A friend of mine's mother had to have both hips replaced because of running but still runs  Just doesn't seem worth it if it does more harm than good. That's why I love my ol' stationary bike easy on the joints, gets the heart and sweat going and I can always up the intensity without worrying about my joints. Speaking of the bike I'll be heading up for a ride in a bit and then relaxing until husband gets home from NY. Then he leaves on Saturday for London :ohwell: it's only until Wednesday but I hate it and I can't even entertain myself with booze this year :grumble: Oh well.
Next Friday I'm going out with the best friend and our friend Eve to celebrate my and the best friend's birthday, should be a great night0 -
haha Kim..yeah the pool is a little different. All my swim buddies try to convince me to just hit the hot tub after my swim and it'll be fine..but just the walk from the pool to the hot tub kills me. I'm a wimp about the cold...the blood is very thin being from SoCal!
and I laughed when you mentioned being competitive Bridget..the only time it gets really bad for me is in the pool since you can see the swimmer right next to you and it's easy to get suckered into trying to keep up. I will admit I do enjoy kicking *kitten* against quite a few of the men who swim tho
I got my weight workout in and feel great...and now if I could just convince myself that those calories don't automatically mean I should drink wine!! I'm good about not drinking if I don't workout...I need to rack up a few 0's on my workout days as well. :ohwell:0 -
oh, and kat..your tree looks great! *jealous*!!0
-
Thanks SoCal that was our old tree, actually the first ever tree we got together and unfortunately after last year we had to toss it :frown: Now we have a big ol' 9 footer for that room. I may have a picture somewhere but I love this one with my pup-a-lups I would put up more pictures if MFP would just make it easy, I just could not figure out sizing and photo bucket, I don't really have patience when it comes to that, I like to be able to just upload a picture and be done with it haha.0
-
Ok I'm going to try and upload a couple of pics with our current holiday decor.
The second picture is what we decided to go with this year in the TV room instead of buying a new tree. So now we have the big one as seen in the fireplace room and a teeny one in our bedroom and now the new light display in the TV room. As you can tell I'm a big fan of string lights0 -
pretty decor, KAT!
where is your caribbean vacation, Robin? I just got everyone booked for Feb 15-22 in Costa Rica. I am very excited. I realized this is my 7th all-inclusive vacation! Sometimes, it's nice to just chill on a beach with unlimited booze...
Cold and snowy here today...
I have some lushiness to report in December
Dec. 1-3 drinks (bloody and two beers)
Dec. 2-1 drink, glass of wine
Dec. 3-3 drinks, but one was a 16-oz coors light
Not sure about tonight, maybe baileys and hot chocolate! and I need to catch up on SOA before I hear too many spoilers:noway:0 -
Running....I attempted c25k but bailed on week 5 and just did my own intervals and was eventually able to do a 5k straight. I was really enjoying the accomplished feeling I was getting from running BUT then I hurt my knee. Once I was back in the game and started running again my stamina was gone and I was having too much pain and decided I was not a fan of it....maybe I'll get back into it some day!
Len and I workout together. He doesn't really enjoy working out and really does it for me (and the nice muscles ) We aren't competitive but having him there helps me push...I like to show off and he is easily impressed
Ashley, I had one of those days too, where I was buried in work...the last 2 wks have been like that. I MAY be able to breathe and catch up today!
Kat, your house looks gorgeous!!!
Last night I had 2 cherry vodkas and sprite zero. YUM! Probably something tonight too.
Today will be rainy but 60something, as long as its not pouring we will be walking!
Almost friday, woohoo! My boss is back form a 2wk vacation...I'm not ready for him today!0 -
Lovely Kat. We don't have anything up yet. We'll do big ornaments out front in our dogwood tree again this year. Going to get that up this weekend. Tree and everything else will probably have to wait till next weekend.
At least I can say I follow through..... I ran to the liquor store and walked home. I got stuff to make dark and stormies (run and ginger beer) and a bottle of red. I drank probably 3 glasses of the red.

Hoping for a 0 tonight. I slept like crap last night.
Friday I have gift exchange with one set of my girlfriends, a work party Saturday, and family birthdays Sunday. And the holiday madness begins......0 -
Oh, and my take on running..... I love running and have been doing it more than half my life. I've never been fast; I got up to about a 6.3mph around 2007, took a hiatus and run about a 10 minute mile give or take now. I hate distance running but typically do 2-3 miles twice a week, generally pushing a stroller. As long as my body will let me, I will run. I have seen a big correlation between runners and drinkers by the way......0

I've been sleeping ****ty this week mostly because I am probably not going to bed tankered. My very sweet and loving husband tried to bid on a 3.0 karat round diamond for me yesterday. He actually went to the auction site to check it out and was blown out of the water yesterday. Thank God!! He almost gave me a heart attack.
Kat, lovely decorations and very cozy looking. Enjoy you celebrations.
Today, I will shoot for an actual zero...0 -

I finally had a good night sleep..woohoo! I'm pretty sure my weight workout did the trick..heavy lifting just wipes me out by days end.
Had my usual 2 glasses of red last night. I'm nothing if not consistent. :drinker:
Christmas decorations are going up by the weekend. We'll get the tree next week...I can't wait for the smell to fill the house!0 -
We'll get the tree next week...I can't wait for the smell to fill the house!
Yes, yes, yes, the smell is amazing. I cannot ever go back to artificial again. Plus, the bonus of burning it in a bonfire is def a rush in the spring - WHOOOSH!!
I try not to celebrate Christmas until after Mandy's birthday so ours will be up this weekend as well
I might have to try that heavy lifting bit for sleep!! But, today is run day and tomorrow will be kettlebells or barre yoga for some *kitten* kicking.
Have a great day peeps!! Off to attempt running and work0 -
Morning peeps! My projected 0 for last night turned into a 2. Had my bestie over for dinner and we decided to pop open a bottle of wine
We got our tree last weekend and our house smells wonderful. I've had a fake one for the past few years, and it made me so happy to throw that one out and get a real one.
So Cal/Nisijam5 - heavy lifting always helps me sleep better.
Better - sorry you had a crappy work day
Have a great weekend everyone, off to California this evening for the weekend. Cheers! :drinker:0 -
Kat, your Christmas decorations are beautiful!! I wish I was like that, my house is bare. I'm not even sure I'll be putting up a tree this year. We are out of town every single weekend, and it's just me & my cat at home in the evenings during the week, so I don't know if I even want to go through the hassle. I'm not the most creative or decorative person anyway :ohwell:
Better, running & drinking do go together! LOL. I wouldn't classify myself as a "runner" though. Last night I managed to do 1.24 miles on the treadmill in 15 minutes! But my oh my did my shins hurt!
Sydney, I love how you weight lift! I am too intimidated to go to the weight portion of the gym cause there is always so many musclehead guys there...and I only have 5-8lb weights at home. So, I just don't do anything. LOL
Ram, wine sounds so good!! I'm tempted to go get some tonight, but I'm really trying to hold off until tomorrow...then all bets are off!!
The high today in Kansas (at least Wichita) is 25 degrees...but with the wind it feels like 15! UGH!! I am going to hot yoga this evening only to sit in a 100 degree room for 75 minutes! I'm looking forward it!!!
SO happy tomorrow is Friday!!! WOOT WOOT!0 -

Do you have a pair of goog running shoes? Like ones you've been fitted for at a running store? I pay upwards of $100 for mine, but it is so worth it. Could be that your shoes are worn out too (as mine are right now). I used to get shin splints when I used to just pick the "pretty" running shoes and often still do once my shoes are at the end of their life. Shin splints blow.0 -
Thanks all =} it takes a little while to put up all the decor which is why I do it the day after Thanksgiving so I can enjoy it for plenty of time since it takes so long to put up. Not to mention I just love the cozy glow from all the lights
Thursdays my friend comes over and works from my house since husband is late at work so it's time for me to go work out before she gets back!!0 -
Better, I do need to buy a new pair of shoes. I have a pair of Brooks that I bought almost 2 years ago, so they are in need of being replaced. I wear them for running/walking and my workouts. They are soooooo comfortable!!! I will be buying a new pair with my Christmas money It is very important to have comfortable shoes and good quality when working out!0

Enjoyed catching up on the thread. Running verses walking- I used to jog but my 57 year old knees complain so I will stick with walking. I enjoy it most by myself and usually get lost in random tangents of thought. Today I walked several miles in 25 degree cold. Random thought was of Clark Griswold in the movie National Lampoons Christmas Vacation where he remarks to the busty sales gal about the cold weather. "It sure is nipply out!" And it was this morning too!
Kat- Great job on the Christmas decorations. Looks cozy and inviting.0 -
I had 2 beers last night. I made breakfast for dinner, and I really do think a good wheat beer (in my case a 312) goes well with eggs and bacon. I say that in all honesty.....

That's pretty good for me. We got no snow in KY, but there was a threat, so naturally school is closed. My day care closes at noon so I get a snow day too! Woo hoo! Supposed to gift exchange with friends tonight, but I bet we cancel because we actually are supposed to get some snow. Have a great weekend lushes! I believe my weekend may actually be a bit tame.0 -
Ryzeman-HA too funny!!! Len's family loves and quotes that movie constantly!!!
I really enjoy walking too...gives me and Len a chance to catch up on the day and just be silly!!! Usually we walk a trail but its so dark we have ventured out into neighborhoods which is great because they have sidewalks and pedestrian cross walks...although drivers do not like us at all and must think we are lunatics!!!
Last night 3 cocktails. Here's my week:
Monday-3 cocktails
Tuesday-3 cocktails
Wednesday-2 cocktails
Thursday-3 cocktails
Friday-My goal is to split ONE Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. They are super delicious and about 18%, so I SHOULD be able to sip it like a nice wine!!!
Tomorrow another beer event...geesh! It starts at 11am but we will be in line at 930...that's right a line...why cause we are crazy people...CRAZY FOR BEER  I know I'm a nerd
We plan on taking it easy though...go have lunch split a few brewskis and head home and drink a growler of Weyerbacher Insanity that we have sitting in the fridge...BEER DAY!!!!!! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
If things go down hill we will stick to our original plan and catch a cab home. Either way it will be a splendid day!!!
Sunday, I will be making fruitcake and pretzels and ham broth...that is if I don't destroy myself saturday
Friday YAY! Hoping the day goes quickly and stress-free!!
Enjoy!0 -
Ryzeman - that is hilarious! I love that movie. It was a favorite in our house when I was growing up & my husband loves that movie as well. It is a classic!
I got my husband to go on TWO walks with me this summer/fall. We had a good time (at least I did). Hopefully he'll walk more with me in the spring, that would be so fantastic!
I'm really excited cause I got on the scale this morning & I've lost weight! I don't know if it is just the extreme amount I sweated out at hot yoga last night, but either way...I'll take it!!!! Makes for a happy Friday!!
Hubby & I were supposed to go to KC tonight, but now we're just going to his hometown tomorrow for his friend's birthday. I'm happy cause then we can have a date night tonight & go to our fave pizzeria/brewery! YAY!
Happy Friday, Lushes!!!!!:drinker:0 -
Gary, it's even nipply here in SoCal...woke up to temps in the 30's. We'll get snow this weekend in our mountains which are about a 45 min drive....but I can see in our horizon...which is about as close to snow as I care to be!
I'm going to take a walk today before the storm comes in tomorrow...rain all day means I will enjoy a quiet day of decorating and maybe a couple of movies.
I had wine every night this week....I also exercised every day and the scale seems to be inching downward. I'm going to wait to log it. Bridget...congrats on your loss!!
This week went surprisingly fast. Only 1 more and my son is back home...woooohoooo! I have plenty to do before he gets here so next week should go quickly too.
Kate you weekend sounds busy and fun, as always.
TGIF and enjoy lushes! :drinker: :drinker:0 -
Gary, I can relate to the random thoughts - it's the ADD of my life, or as I call it, Kim-DD. I often quote Happy Gilmore lines especially at work, "You're in my world, Grandma." Of course, not in front of patient.
Well, I had 7 oz of vodka when friend came over on the fly...I'll have to add to grand total later
We had snow and now it's 9 degrees outside for the rest of the week.
Kate, I live vicariously thru you and your lushy fun.
I am off the next 6 days and plan to finish all the Christmas shopping. Amazon is my best friend this year. I've trialed the 30 day PRIME shipping for free and applied for a credit card to get $50 off my order. Life is good when you don't have to leave.
Now, I am off to find bunches of receipts to return CRAP. Hair appt at 2. Run after that and ruin my hair. 3/4 of a bottle of wine waits in the fridge which I don't want to go bad.0 -

I absolutely love Amazon. My husband has the prime membership and it's just so lovely being able to choose free 1 or 2 day shipping on almost everything. It's also dangerous haha.
Aside from buying a gift card to a restaurant we are DONE with all of our Christmas shopping thanks to me starting it so early
It's a very gloomy day here today so I'm a bit sleepy but I'm about to go up and work out, being almost 6 months pregnant is no excuse for this gal. Then husband and I will probably go out to dinner since he leaves for London tomorrow, boo.
Happy Friday all :flowerforyou:0 -
To all my lushy lady friends- show this video to your hubbys to let them know what is in store for them as they reach my age: Warning it's a naughty one!

Wow I don't show up for a day or two and you guys get all chatty. Anyway I have nursed a black box of merlot all week. tonight it is vodka. 10 more working days until St Martin (Amy we are cruising on an 8 person catamaran for the week) then to vegas and my girls girls girls. I decided no shopping this year. I am not big on celebrating. I spend all year long on my family so the holidays is al about seeing each other and hanging out. I would rather surpirse them with things all through out the year.
I finaly get the house to my self tomorrow as Doug is going to get his SCUBA certification. He will be busy the next two saturdays and sundays. It is so freakin cold though I can't imagine what the open dives will be like even with a dry suit.
Catch you all later.
Your Mama Lush!
