sore throat, cough relief

I had strep throat a month ago and would have liked to have had a throat lozenge to help relieve some of the pain and dryness. This was posted by one of my connections on Facebook. Since it's cold and flu season, I thought I'd share. Hopefully, none of you will have a use for it.

I just mixed some up for my son. I hope it makes his throat feel better. I juiced an orange instead of lemon today.

Thanks for sharing. I don't typically get sick but have a friend who spends most of the winter battling colds and flu. She won't listen to me that her diet has a lot to do with it but that is neither here nor there. I am making her a healing basket for her birthday which is comprised of all sorts of homemade immune boosters and healthy homemade cough and cold remedies. I will definitely add this one to the bunch!

The bad thing about this recipe is the coconut oil solidifies when cool, even room temp in winter. You don't want to heat it hot because that destroys the goodness in raw honey. I can warm enough to remix, but it separates quickly.

What I've been doing yesterday and today: juice an orange (or lemon) into a big glass measuring cup, add solid-ish coconut oil and cinnamon, and warm in microwave, then mix in honey. Stir vigorously and pour some into shot glass to drink. Save rest for later. Rewarm measuring cup in a dish of hot water, stir again vigorously.

In my opionion, this wouldn't be good to make ahead of time and keep on hand, due to separation and oxidation. It could appear gross to those not into coconut oil. I would consider sharing the recipe and perhaps the ingredients rather than the "syrup" pre-made. Babyphit, maybe try making a small batch first to see what I'm talking about.

Something that works to reduce the coughing and/or soreness in the throat is keeping a whole clove in your mouth (don't swallow it!). Yes, it's a strong taste at first, but you will get used to it in about a minute, and its a natural remedy and sugar free. Clove has natural numbing and muscle relaxing properties, so it is able to calm your coughing spells, and sooth the painful inflamed surfaces of your sore throat. Good luck.

My last two colds lasted only one day with a tiny sore throat and sniffles, then suddenly good as new-gotta love Paleo!

Just hot water with lemon works wonders. For an extra kick, ginger tea with lemon. I try anything and everything I have on hand depending the problem. Spices, foods, oils..

I am trying this today. Let's see how it works. Usually we just drink bucketload of tea with honey and lemon when we are sick.
