Hi all. Here's my scoliosis story...
I had surgery for pretty bad curvature at 16. I can't remember the #'s now (I'm looking it up), but I remember the docs saying it was really bad and they had to operate immediately! Before the surgery I had SO much pain, some of it being debilitating and stopping me dead in my tracks. Post surgery, all those weird pains are gone, and now I'm just left with the normal aches and pains associated with a deformity such as this.
I am curious to learn a lot more about my scoliosis now that I'm an adult and more interested in my health and body. I'm curious to know how it impacts my running, and how my strength training will help with it as well, so I look forward to reading through this group's previous posts.
I think my next step is to do a lot of online reading, and then set an appointment with some sort of ortho/therapist to have my gait checked. I think my scoliosis might be causing the hip pain that I have when I run long distances and I'm really interested in finding out how to change that. I'm also curious to learn about what sorts of therapies and exercises other adults are doing.
It's kind of funny that this was such a big deal and I had surgery, and then after 1 followup appointment I never had any medical checkups or questions about it. None of my doctors seem to care or even ask about it. So I guess it's time to take it into my own hands!
Looking forward to making some scoliosis friends - as I do not have any in my life currently!
