Low Calorie and Low Carb Snack Ideas Need HELP!

Hubster is diabetic, controlled with carb counting and recently getting out of control. I have been successfully counting calories for myself. I have to start being a lot more conscious of carbs for his sake. I have done low carb in the past so I got this. Problem is he's a snacker... a serious all day long kind of snacker. He's reducing the snacks, but I could use some ideas. Do you guys have any snack ideas that don't blow the calorie counts out of the water? I can buy him cans of nuts and pork skins (have him loaded up on those), but things like muffins always seem to use almond flour - then I can't have them. I like to cook and use whole ingredients when possible, but I don't think I will instantly die from processed foods either if that's part of something we really want. Do you guys know of any recipes that fit both the needs of a calorie and a carb counter? I would sure appreciate those!

To clarify - he doesn't count calories - but if I cook - I want us both to be able to eat it!

Quest bars, make dips and keep cut veggies in the fridge, hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs, nuts, smoked salmon and cream cheese rolls, dark chocolate. That's all I can think of right now. I just got a few low carb cookbooks and I've been getting great ideas! I just made some stuffed mushrooms that my whole family loved.
  • I just remembered my favorite low carb snack-OLIVES!

I like Tzatziki sauce with slice red pepper.

Sounds good - you could have a selection of sliced and or chopped vegetables to dip in the sauce - carrots, celery, bits of cucumber etc. And then there are boiled eggs, bits of cheese, cold meats etc plus salads.

I like fruit and plain yoghurt if I'm after something sweet.
  • I don't know if any of you know what this is but I am 1/2 lebanese and when I found out this was low carb I was giddy-it's this awesome super garlicky dip that you can put on your food (I put it on like everything) and it's called toum (say it like tomb) which means garlic in arabic.
    This is the link:

Wanted to share because it's so delicious!!

Thanks for the ideas! Hopefully we find a balance soon around the house with two different diets running simultaneously!

Some great suggestions already. I'll add a few other easy, low calorie, low carb snacks I like.

    Roasted seaweed snacks - examples: YangBan Sea Veggies - 1 container (6g) 35 calories 1 carb, Annie Chun's Seaweed Snacks - 10 sheets (5g) 30 calories 1 carb

Sugar free gelatin - example: Sugar Free Gelatoons - 1 cup (92g) 5 calories 0 carbs

    Low carb yogurt - examples: Carbmaster - 1 container (6oz) 60 calories 4 carbs, Dannon Light & Fit Carb & Sugar Control - 1 container (113g) 45 calories 3 carbs, Greek God's Traditional Greek Yogurt - 4 oz (113g) 130 calories 5 carbs

And of course there's always celery sticks with peanut butter, cucumber slices topped with lemon pepper and dipped in hummus, shrimp cocktail (can make your own sauce with reduced sugar ketchup), etc.

Also there's these wraps called Tumaro's Low in Carb Let's Skip the Sandwich that are only 60 calories and 5 net carbs (lots of other great low carb wraps too, but these are my new favorite).

Sugar free jello cup - 5cals
add no sugar added whipping cream, 2TB is 20cals! 25cals isn't so bad and it feels like a treat!

steamed broccoli + a single slice of cheese or a small sprinkling of something parmasean-y, cals depending on cheese

cucumber dipped in ranch, or topped with sliced tomato, or with a small pat of cream cheese + dill

    miso soup

My Sister-in-law is like a professional entertainer and always has the cheese and crackers out.
One time I was trying to avoid the crackers when I tried a celery stick with cream cheese or cheddar, and a (very thin) piece of pepperoni.

Yummy. I got the crunch without the cracker and still enjoyed putting the cheese and pepperoni on it

Some of my favorites are beef jerky (we make our own), cheese sticks, pickles, banana peppers, pepperoni (microwave for about a minute to crisp up and eat them like chips), kale chips, and hard boiled eggs.
