^^LOVE it!!^^
Happy New Year everyone!
Jen, Laura, I am so with y'all on the clothing sizing thing. Honestly, I don't even try to shop. In the US, I had to buy tall/long and in Greece everyone is shorter than me, so I can forget about it. I might have to take up sewing. lol.
Today we go to the greatgrandmother's place. It's the big holiday in Greece (New Year's is bigger than Christmas, thus my husband's busy schedule lately--he's in consumer product sales). My stomach is a mess today, so hopefully that'll prevent me from overeating. I'll also be planking and I'm adding bodyweight squats to my daily goal.0 -
After tough workouts Monday and Tuesday, I hurt everywhere this morning. Every time I tried to flip over during the night, it woke me up just enough to let out a quick whimper. I joked on my newsfeed that my trainer is trying to kill me, but really it astounds me that after 11 months of training 3x a week he still manages to come up with workouts that challenge me to this level. Going to try to run today - hopefully that breaks up the lactic acid in my legs anyway. And I should start drinking water right now.
Enjoy your holiday Sherry!0 -
Happy New Year fellow exercisers!
I decided to try a flexibility experiment this year. Stretch daily and see how I am at end of year. After a back operation in 2000 I stopped trying to stretch or touch toes or anything until last few years and now my whole class when we do sit down reach over exercises they all have heads down and I barely lean over!
I was afraid of herniating disk again and no doctor told me how to safely stretch. So I am going to see how much I can get back. I have read online that if you stretch daily for 20 min you can.
Of course most people in my nia class do yoga too so I am sure that helps them stay flexible.
Do you all stretch?0 -
I stretch after my workouts, but I don't stretch otherwise. I do Pilates once a week, which has also helped my flexibility.
I have an old VHS tape - Kathy Ireland "Reach" - which is basically 45 minutes of gentle stretching. I should really dig that out, and see if I remember how to use my VCR.0 -
Laura, I secretly love that "too sore to roll over in bed" feeling.
Marla, that's a great idea for this year. I don't stretch separately and I really should. I love the way it feels. To me, the stretch after running is an almost spiritual feeling. I'm usually feeling really great from the run, and the stretch just takes me to a new level. I think I just need to spend more time in the floor in general. I remember as a girl, I spent all of my time in the floor, practicing splits, rolling around, tumbling, etc. I was crazy limber then. Good luck and be sure to get your form/method right and don't push too far too soon. Fitness Blender has a few good stretching routines online that I've tried before, if you're interested in giving them a try. (IFitnessBlender.)
I did good not overeating at lunch, but then came the "vasilopita", the New Year's cake. sigh. I was like the walking dead at lunch with this cough, but we got sent home with a bag full of oranges to help with my cold. Rainy day today and I just want to go curl up in bed with a blankie and tissues for my nose. Still hours away from kids bedtime. :indifferent:0 -
Sherry that is why I think I am frustrated now, as a child I took ballet and could do splits and cartwheels and handstands.
I know I am not young but watching all the ladies in their 60's in my class be so flexible I figure I can!0 -
Today I did a Tactical Cardio workout 47 minutes. It was great and sweaty!
I do have a confession - Oh my goodness I was really bad yesterday. I've been bad before but at least I kept track before. Snack food is my nemesis. I managed to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas with not too much problem. But New Year's Eve when the entire point is to snack from 7 - 12 all I could do is to plan somewhat smart snacks and then just hope for the best. Didn't happen.
Moral to my story is this husband and I realize that we felt miserable after. I'm sure it was a food hangover (I don't know what a real hangover feels like - we don't drink) but I can tell you I haven't felt this miserable since before May. I have forgotten. It has given me new appreciation to the life style change we have made. So this morning lots of water and I have had an apple and will have a sensible lunch and supper.

I love to joint mobility yoga. It isn't all the warrior 1,2, and 3 or chataronga (however you spell it) I like to do it on the day
of a Black Belt Tae Kwon Do class night. Since I have lost weight I noticed that my flexibility has gotten better. I just wish I had started TKD earlier. I started when I was 35. I used to be very flexible stand,n one stair and touch the next one down. Now that my stomach is getting out of the way I might get that back.
My goal flexibility wise is to be able to do a round house kick to someone's face (If I needed to wink:) I can kick forward that high but my hip flexibility isn't there any more. I also need to work on my back flexibility.0 -
Marla,
I stretch. I do yoga and pilaties, and the warm up and cool downs to my workouts - but more so I stretch randomly. I will hurt if I don't and I snap, crackle, pop, like rice crispies. Stretching reduces the amount of popping I seem to have and just makes my body feel better. I started out as not flexible and compared to some, I'm still not flexible, but I can tell I improved and I'm doing it for other reasons anyway.
Jen, if I read that right, you had a food hangover and still worked out? That's impressive, if I eat too much food I'm shot for the day if not longer!
Laura, good luck on the run! Hopefully there isn't too much snow if you run outside.
As for me, I am cleaning all day, which I feel like should count for something considering my stuff is in boxes half my height and a pain to move around... One day I'll finish unpacking, possibly. I did my 10 minute trainer workout again, except I made it 30 minutes this time. I like routine workouts because it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I can increase weight or reps or speed...0 -
I know this day is over, but I wanted to start my 2014 commitment on the first of the year. So on January 1st, I ran for 47 minutes, did warmup and cooldown walks for 11 minutes, and then spent 15 minutes on my stretch routine.
At least one hour of exercising done!0
