Hello there!

I noticed that only airdiva1 and burlingtongrl seem to be regularly active on this group. You are both doing great! 4 miles a day is fantastic. I just started working out again and for now I aim for 3-5 days of working out per week. Not all of the workouts will be walking, but for the most part they are. I walk a meagerly 2.3 miles. So posting a miles per month challenge isn't going to work, because you to gals are zooming right past me. LOL! :laugh:

    It does matter how far you go. I started out walking around the block and just kept increasing from there. We just post our times or distances to keep us motivated. If I don t have anything to post I feel guilty and that gets me out there.

    Yes, logging everything on this site definitely helps. By the way, your burned calories for today just motivated me to add 20 more minutes of exercise, because your numbers made me look like I did nothing. LOL! Thanks, I needed that! :happy:

    When I first start walking in mid September, I could barely walk 1/2 miles without stopping every other step and panting. There were other people that past me two and even three times.
    One thing I like at the park where I walk the majority of the time is everyone does it a different paces.
    I made small goals. To walk the 1/2 mile without stopping, walk a mile every other day at first,etc.

    Thank you! You are an inspiration. I hope I will "stick with the program" and build up to the great dedication both of you have. I am only walking on my treadmill, which gets boring really quickly. I don't think I want to walk by myself where I live now. We just moved across the country from Alaska to Maryland. In Alaska I could just leave my home and walk for hours (in my neighborhood, with an eye out for bears and moose). Here, my neighborhood itself is okay, but the next ones... not so much.

    Check out local parks in your area.
    The park that I walk at the majority of the time is right next to an elementry school. There are times, esp mid day that I'm the only person out there. But the path pass by on side of the school and weather premitting, the kids come out for recess.
    The park that I love to walk at, don't have alot of people walking this time of year. Since this one goes through some wooded area, I don't walk unless others are there.
    If you start walking often at a park, you will soon notice regulars.
    We have a greenbelt in my town,but it's a distance and while it's nice, only go once in a while.
    Each park has a vibe and it might take trial and error to find the one you like!

    So my first challenge of the New year and for January is to walk 100 miles. Usually I walk on the weekends, get on the treadmill and elliptical during the week. Working on pushing myself just a bit more than usual.

    Hi everyone!
    My goal is to do 100 miles this month with the theme "One Day At A Time".
    I look at this journey as a daily thing and can focus better.
    It was alot colder and I was the only person out there.
    I like walking because it clears my mind and enjoy being outside
    total is 10 miles for January!

    I"m still only doing about 1 to 2 miles a day. I get at least one mile at work walking around my building but walking at home hasn't fully taken off. i was trying to start with my wife who is doing strength exercies while I walk but we didn't really get started until this week. That will add another 1 to 2 miles a day so I'll get close to my goal with that.

    I have succeeded in dropping below 240lbs this week which puts me in overweight from obese. Yea!
    I'm on track with my exercise to get to 5k steps a day but it is proving difficult due to not being able to walk while at work. I'm doing about 2k steps during work but that is the max time I can take for my lunch period. Doing another 2k at home on the treadmill.

    I'm not sure I can get up to the final goal of 10k a day, which is considered "active". That seems to be unreasonable in terms of the time factor so I may need to look at other methods to measure level of effort to include strength training and elevation on my walker.
