Hi all!
I'm going lower carb than I have in the past. My original goal was to stay below 40% carb, but found yesterday to be at 28%, or only 150 g of carbs.
I was wondering if any of you have read Gary Taubes and what your thoughts are about his books and/or articles.
The mainstream MFP folks seem to disagree with him, but not a single person can tell me why.
Thanks!

I have read Taubes books and find his message to be very compelling. I do respect his work. He has also teamed up with Dr Peter Attia, a very respected doctor, to conduct some extensive nutritional studies. I think he, along other people in his camp, like Dr Steven Phinney, Dr Volek, Dr Eenfeldt, Dr Dalqvist, Dr Robert Lustig, etc, are going to overturn a lot of rocks and get the story straight.0

I think Taubes' work has had a few flaws, like oversimplifying the carbohydrates = obesity issue, but overall I think his work has been in the right direction with the right evidence. It'll take time - and in the meanwhile, more and better studies are being done. Until we reach some kind of tipping point, though, the food pyramid / food plate won't be adjusted.0

Thanks! I know how hard it is to do dietary research, but Taubes goes through some compelling evidence of why the dietary guidelines of today are generally bad for us. I finished Why We Get Fat last week and started Good Calories, Bad Calories.
I think quite a few of the folks who commented on my other post in the food and nutrition forum have not even read him. My OP even said that if you have read him, please share your thoughts. Then I had the crazy rash of those saying that he's a scam, a snake oil salesman, etc. And, I know he watered down GCBC to write Why We Get Fat so more could understand it, so I could see where he may have oversimplified carbs. I am still only in the beginning of GCBC, so once I get there, I'll keep you posted!0
