Split Schedule (2-a-Days)

My husband has recently decided he needs to get healthier (YAY!).
When he does things, he does them full force. I've been working out (as you all know) for some time on my own doing CHX, TF, and other programs.
He has decided the best way for him to start is to run and he has asked me to join him. I LOATHE running. But he got me a Nike+Fuel band and new shoes and asked me to run with him.
Yesterday was our first run and I told him that that would probably replace my other workouts. He seemed to feel that I should continue my regular workouts AND run.
So my question is:
Do any of you do split days (ie: Lift Early, Cardio Late?).
I'd appreciate any advice that might help that be easier for me. Should I do weights during lunch or sooner to recover for the run?
How does this work in a FAMILY situation? I mean, my husband and I will be doing the run together but I'm still the mom and wife.
I really DIDN'T want to stop doing my CHX, I'm on the Lean Circuit and with his encouragement I feel like the strongest athlete in the world.
I appreciate your candid answers!

After going through CLX once I made up my own hybrid where I essentially did the CLX strength circuit, following by a turbofire HIIT.
On the alternate days I would do a longer turbofire workout only.
I did them back-to-back at 6am (my only "me" time) and in general had no trouble with energy levels throughout the day.
I think whatever you decide to do will be fine, just make sure you look at your energy and hunger levels and make any changes you need to (i.e. you're probably going to need more food on the days you double up).
You might need an extra rest day too - all depends on how your body copes!0 -
Thanks for your response!
Doing the workouts back-to-back may work. After our short run last night I did still have energy and probably could have done some lifting. At least after a run I'll be properly dressed and working off the endorphins.
Really good advice on rest days.0 -
I would say I have always lifted before doing additional cardio (I think I read somewhere that this was the preferred way round).
I guess the idea being you need all your energy to get the most out of your lifting, but you can half-*kitten* it through some cardio with limited energy if you have to.
All depends how it works for you though - if running then lifting is the only way round you can do it, then that is obviously going to be best for you!0 -
I am doing the lifting of CLX along with the cardio from T25 and I am doing them back to back. I like to get it done. I am doing the lifting first as to serve as my warmup and then doing the cardio.0

Unfortunately the way it would work if I did all at home would be the run with my husband first, since that is his workout and then my workout.
Right now I have not done 2 in a day since my body is not used to running and it is causing some residual pain0 -
Another option would be to not run every day. I have done every other day with strength/CLX and then running on the off days. It has worked fairly well to fit within a nice schedule. You could take the time he runs on off days to do your thing. I'm navigating this once it gets warmer with my husband as well. He wants to start working out more and he did the "burn it off" bonus program with me. I about fell on my *kitten* laughing. He hasn't done any of the other ones yet, I think he'll probably be a whole less ridiculous. Your comment about your hubby doing things "full force" is EXACTLY what my husband is doing - "that's not an uppercut, I'll show you an uppercut!"0

I was thinking of an every other day schedule also, but it will be hard for me to keep up with his progress if he is running all the time and I'm not.
So far though, he has not been on a run without me.0 -
Updating to say that we still have not begun a running routine together, but I have been continuing to do my own workouts. I may start to add in some treadmill time at the gym after my lifting though to get stronger at running.0

ugh, I just realized it's been almost a month since my last post in this thread.
Since last week I have been focusing on running for cardio and ZERO weights.
I have asked my husband repeatedly "are you going to run with me today?" and he gives me the cute look and says "noooo...."
If you are a friend to me and not just seeing my posts in forums, then you know I'm trying to get him to start a workout plan with me after we return from my brother's wedding (March 1).
If he does, then I may need to revisit this post and update you then.0
