I ran a half marathon in the fall of 2013. I can highly recommend running at least 3 times a week. I don't think running once a week is enough if you want to do a half marathon. I also suggest you run the full 21km if not a little more, in order to give yourself the confidence to know you can do it and also to mentally prepare for it. The 10 min run 1 min walk is a great idea, I run like that all the time and catch my breath and take some fluids in the minute walk break. If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer them. Good luck with the training. Running is really a great natural high and that's what keeps on bringing me back every time.
