Newbie Question

Hi! I am new to IIFYM, got all of my numbers, macros etc. and believe I understand the basics and am starting TODAY. My question is that I am having trouble wrapping my head around the concept of being able to eat 1500 cals. and still be able to lose weekly. I have been eating around 1200 cals. 40/30/30 (40 being protein) for some time now and lose a few lbs here and there but not like you'd think for 1200 cals. I am 5 ft. 4 162 lbs and would like to drop 25 lbs. or more. I run 3+ miles 3 to 4 x per week, bike twice a week plus strength train twice per week. Can someone else share if they lost after switching from previously low calories and how many weeks it might take for my body to adjust to the increase in calories. Any input would be appreciated.

Not what you're looking for, but are you weighing your food to ensure accurate calorie intake numbers? I ask because it can be very easy to underestimate how many calories we are consuming.

Yes, I weigh and measure everything and I underestimate calorie burn just to be safe.

Okay great. I don't have very relevant experience to your question so I don't have any great answers, but at 1,500 calories you should definitely see weight loss. I'd probably stay at the 1,500 for a few weeks and then see what the scale is doing. If you aren't happy with the results then drop to 1,400 and see what that does for you. Luckily it's easy to adjust things over time to get the long-term results you're looking for. It's very difficult to measure/estimate things perfectly out of the gate - small adjustments are usually necessary.

Thanks. I am going to do just that. I am going to give it 2 weeks then adjust up or down depending on the results. Again thanks for the suggestion.
