Emotional Eating

How does an emotional eater go about dealing with the ups and downs of a weight loss battle? Got on the scale this morning and I'm almost 2 pounds higher than my last weigh in even though I've been under calories all week and have worked out 3 out of 5 days (today would add 4 if I can convince myself)... and I want nothing more than to just say F it and eat everything in my house. How backwards is that?

I know exactly how you feel!!!! I struggle with emotional eating, especially after taking tests or whenever I feel down about myself. Heck, even getting on a scale can make me feel depressed or happy, depending on what the numbers say I will tell you, I have gotten better about it, I wait a few minutes and see if I am really hungry, or if my emotions are driving me to eat. Try drinking a glass of water. Sometimes thirst can be mistaken for hunger. Another idea is to only weigh yourself around the same time every morning. Usually, as the day progresses, we are subject to gravity and everything we eat or drink is still with us!!! Remember, the scale is just a number that determines the force gravity applies to your body, water, bones, muscle, fat, everything. See how your clothes fit, if that changes, you know your body is changing, and isn't that the point????? If you need help, we are here for you!!!! Reach out to someone, I'm sure there are more people like us!!!! Also, try going for a walk, and evaluating how you are feeling. Maybe just clearing your head will help.0

The body weight can vary 1-5 pounds a week depending on various factors like water retention, glycogen levels in your muscle etc. Don't get discouraged if the weight moves couple of pounds. I have a similar pattern of losing weight, where I don't lose weight for 7-10 days and then suddenly drop 3-4 pounds.Other indicator in addition to the scale is measuring your waist, hips etc. Sometimes you lose inches but not weight. Just stick to your plan and don't give it up on daily weight fluctuations.0

remember that fat weighs more than muscle! maybe you just gained some muscle weight. the more of that you have, the harder your body will have to work to maintain it and it will help you lose weight! measuring definitely will help you see differences that the scale won't show you.0
