Beer Exchanges

Hello,

I love beer and always strive to try new breweries/beers. In the past I found a good exchange market in the US. There were a group of us all over the country and we traded our local varities. This included six packs, bombers and other one off beers. The old group kinda disbanded and I think it was due to too many people getting burned on trades. We also used Paypal when you wanted something but didn't have any trade bait.

Anyone have a group or know of one? If not, how about starting one? I am a novice at this and have no idea what it would entail but I am willing to try anything out.

Thanks!

Never done it, but it could be pretty cool! And, if you we wanted to start a website for it, I could program it. IT's what I do.

I have only done it a couple times (with another MFP user, actually) But it can be very rewarding, fun, and tasty... I put a couple links in the "Helpful Tools and Links" of this Group. Check it out here. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/880601-helpful-tools-and-links

It's a few posts down. The first link is a great primer for beginning traders.

    Cheers!

I trade on BeerAdvocate, and there is a very active trading community there.

I have joined at BA and have no idea on trading. I know there is a new waiting period. There is so much lingo to learn too. I was hoping to just hook up with someone on a coast and trade local beers. I have like a million choices in WI.

Chris, I'm in Grand Rapids, Michigan, so have a lot of choices as well. I also have SOME access to Pliny. ::happy:

I'm in Chicago. I would be interested in doing some trading. Although, between the three of us, we probably already have access to MOST of the stuff each would be trading (minus New Glarus and Short's that is).

That depends, are we only trading bottles? Because howlers might be an option too from local breweries. But, if we're just talking bottles, yes, we all have access to pretty much the same products. There are a few breweries by me that don't distribute, but sell bottles out of their brewery.

I can also get most anything from Northern California and Seattle, as I have contacts there. I also have some friends in North Carolina, that if I ask real nicely, can probably get some stuff.

I have a 12 pack of Goose Island 312 Cans that I'll put up for trade. It is exclusive to Chicago, hence the 312 area code. I would be willing to trade for Pliny the Elder, Heady Topper, Westy 12, any Cantillon or any stuff from Cigar City.

    Any takers?

I Just read it, and was thinking to myself... "Seriously? An InBev beer exclusive to only Chicago? Is this guy CRAZY?!?" Then I read your quote to your own post, and was like... Oh thank God.

Yes, trade we did! :) It's because of you that I have a (new) bottle of CEO Stout in my basement. When I was up in Michigan a few months ago I picked one up!

I've had people reach out to me through Untappd.com and ask for trades. It's hard to determine if someone is trustworthy, so the best I can suggest is to keep your initial trades small - one to two bottles at most. That way if they stiff ya, you're not out that much. That being said, I've never had anyone who didn't come through. I think people who are willing to discuss trades are generally dedicated enough to the craft beer scene that they're genuine.

There's also a site I've found recently - mybeercellar.com. You basically just buy bottles from private sellers. It's a bit pricier - I've seen Founders CBS for $165 for a 22oz bomber. But I did one purchase and it went pretty well. Got a 2007 bottle of Raison D'Extra from Dogfish Head for about $40 bucks.
