Can someone explain carbs vs net carbs?

Ive been researching, reading, tweaking, living, breathing keto for the last 8 days and Im unable to figure out what NET CARBS are? Am I missing something and its right under my nose?
Ps Today is day 8 and I feel very good. I seemed to have ( for the most part, aside from a cold ) pushed through the unpleasant non-stop headache of carb-jonesing from day 3 to 7.
Thanks so much in advance

Carbs - fiber = Net carbs0

For the most part yes carbs-fiber =net carbs
Some people also choose to subtract 1/2 or all of sugar alcohol from their carbs as well. This can be risky because some people can digest sugar alcohol and some can't. Basically if you get gassy and um... need to run to the bathroom you can't digest it. So your call.0 -
Carbs - fiber = Net carbs
^ This for most part because most of the fiber is insoluble. However, some foods have more soluble fiber but can be ignored if it doesn't spike the glucose levels.0 -

But... fiber is indigestible, whether it's soluble or not. Humans lack the enzyme cellulase and cannot digest cellulose.
I am one of those people who subtracts sugar alcohols from the total carb count to obtain Net Carbs. Some sugar alcohols will give you gastric distress (read: gas and/or diarrhea) if you eat too much of them. That said, coconut oil will do the same, if you eat too much of it.

Ideally yes all the fiber listed on the label shouldn't count. But the methods used by food industry overestimate the fiber content, especially the soluble fiber. Few grams of carbs/fiber shouldn't make a difference if the over all carb/sugar content is low. It would be so much easier to track carbs if the sugar alcohols are not counted as carbs.0 -
So, what your saying, in essence,is that I can add a few more carbs into my equation by deducting fiber?

Yes.
For your food diary change your settings so your carbs is beside your fiber count it's a lot easier when doing keto's0 -

This is what I do! I also avoid using the foods in the database titled with *net carbs* and use ones that I know are accurate with the carb and fiber counts separate. I prefer to do the math on my own and know how much of each (carbs and fiber) I'm actually getting.0 -

yes, be careful with the foods in the database. I've seen some examples where they enter the net carbs in the carbs field, and still show the fiber (which would make me double-count the fiber)0 -

If you are using chrome you can download an add on for MFP to automatically calculate net carbs
