PCOS?

I've noticed one of the questions you ask is whether someone has PCOS. I have it as does one of my sisters (who has struggled a lot with weight loss) and I know it can make weight loss more difficult, so I'm curious to know (in general) how that diagnosis affects your recommendations.

I dont want to answer for sarah or sidesteel, but I would suspect the amount of carbs would be adjusted as many cases of pcos come with insulin resistance and require a lower carb diet. But I am curious to their answer so I am in.0

That would make sense based on my experience. I found out I had prediabetes a couple years ago (my sister has Type II and my parents both have it) so I was more determined than ever to lose the last 10-12 lbs of pregnancy weight that just wouldn't budge after 8 months of effort. MFP wasn't working, WW was no longer working, the insulin resistance diet wasn't working. I finally did the Dukan Diet (though I ate veggies along with protein and dairy just about every day) and finally lost the weight in about 6 weeks. I did reverse the prediabetes and my PCOS symptoms improved a little, too.
The past year I've been doing a modified Dukan with more carbs since I try to run 3x/wk and am now trying to do strength training 3x/wk. I'm not currently in a plateau but I've had plenty of them in the past so I'd love to know their answer for future reference (or to share with my sister)!0 -
Just as a reference point, most people I have seen succeed with pcos eat around 80 to 120g of carbs... give or take..0

Basically what psulemon said. We would likely consider reducing carbs a bit lower for pcos.0

Got it. Thank you!
After reading through some of the basics threads on this board, I adjusted my macros yesterday to:
Net Calories Consumed* / Day 1,340 cal/day
Carbs / Day 117.0 g
Fat / Day 52.0 g
Protein / Day 101.0 g
With the plan to also eat 50-75% of exercise calories, so it sounds like I'm probably within range for any PCOS adjustments, maybe aiming for a little more protein and a little less carbs/fat if I do plateau. (I'm 5'7" and 132 lbs.)0
