Ummm... Powerlifting Competition question

The glamlet website hurt my eyes! But it's good to have in case I ever do want to compete.
I converted the Ohio results to kg and I think (I hope!) they're given in pounds. Otherwise, there are some scary-*kitten* she-beasts roaming around that could snap me in half!
I would say general state meet totals would be between 600-900lbs depending on weight class. Does that equal shebeast? And yes I'm bored today can you tell?
So perhaps the women competing in my state are a bit less she-beast. The winner in my weight class (148#) total was 270 pounds. It does seem to be pretty sparse competition though.
you sure they aren't kilos?
must be kilos for that total otherwise I beat it with just my deadlift lol :laugh:0 -

Doh! Ok, so upon recalculating, they are in kilos, but I'm not put off of the idea. I think it would be fun to train for and I would have the majority of a year before the next competition in my area.0 -
Competitions in my area seem kinda sparse, (and short on info for what I can shoot for) but I have been tempted.
Edit: From what I can find out of local competitions, I would be smack in the middle of weight classes. (I'm 140. . .ish, after the flood the scale got misplaced and I can dig it out if need be--maybe as high as 143). Classes are 132 and 148. Would I be better bulking up to 148 or cutting down to 132? I know the cutting would cost me some strength, but I"m sure a lot of the women in the 148 class will have cut from 150ish or so.
You and I are about the same weight, and I figured I would bulk up to 148. 8 pounds of fat down seems a lot harder than 8 pounds of muscle up, and honestly, I don't know if my body would do it anyway.0 -
most recommendations are not to cut for your first comp as you want to enjoy the experience and feel as strong as you can. you'll be nervous enough without all that extra worry!0

It's generally recommended to just weigh what you weigh at your first meet. I ended up cutting, but that's because my meet was a week after thanksgiving and I was up a few pounds from the weight class I signed up for. I just water loaded the week before, went light on carbs, and fasted the day of weigh ins. I was 3 lbs under. Water weight is fun. Alana Casey had an article about weight classes, but it didn't really apply to me currently so I didn't pay super close attention to what she said. Let me see if I can find it. http://www.liftbigeatbig.com/2013/12/what-weight-class-should-i-be-in.html0 -
If they're too low then it's kilos  A lot of times they'll show wilks points at the end and then you can kind of deduce. Or they'll so lifter weights in lbs, but not label the lift weights.0

tI'm trying not to put the cart before the horse, as I just officially started 5x5 a few weeks ago. I'm very strong though .... its so nice to be doing a physical activity I am actually naturally good at. Unlike, say, running, ha! I looked at what the ladies are doing in my weight class (about 90K) in my state and it honestly seems super do-able to me. I figure I will see where I am around my birthday in three months and then maybe join the powerlifting gym and see where I go from there.0

Haha. The moment I said anything to my husband about considering competing he got super excited and encouraging. Maybe I'll stick this June competition on my calendar and start trying to shoot for it.
:drinker: BOOM! go for it :bigsmile:0
