Just wanted to say hello. I am a cancer survivor so I walk as part of my exercise routine. I do not like running. I know that many runners feel that walkers are not worth their time. I have met quite a few of them and have heard some rather disparaging remarks. I do not run because I have I have back issues and hurts to run. I walked the 20K walk at the Duke City Marathon in Albuquerque NM in October 2013. I just completed the Biggest Loser Run/Walk series Half Marathon on 26 January 2014. Placed 5th overall in the walking division, 1st in my age group. My time was 2:47. I am planning on doing the Half Marathon at the Duke City Marathon in October. I have to complete against runners in this since they did away with the 20K walk and replaced it with a 10K. Hopefully the runners in this group do not have the attitudes I have have seen where they tell me I should not be racing with them and we are just in their way. I think they are full of BS personally.

Only time a walkers annoy me is when they are in a line like in the game of Red Rover and blocking entire path! Good job on kicking cancer's butt, and taking care of YOU!!!! Welcome to the group.

Thank you for the comments. I try to be as courteous as possible so I don't impede anyone. In the Biggest Loser Half Marathon the runners and walkers were on the same course. I actually finished before 113 runners did. If someone wants to pass me they are more than welcome to. I am not a racewalker by any means. I do not do that funky "throw your hip out of place" walk that they do. I call it the funky chicken.

No offense intended but I would throw my hips out of place trying to do that.

Wow, i'm in awe of your walking skills! I'm running my first half marathon this Sunday and can barely keep a 13:30 pace. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the comment. I just walk as fast as my stubby little legs will go. Having the MapMyWalk app on my phone really helps since it tells me my pace every 1/2 mile (configurable to whatever you want). That helps to let you know that you are staying at the pace you want. I find it very helpful.

I registered this weekend for the Half Marathon race at the Duke City Marathon in Albuquerque NM on October 19th. I will be walking against all the runners and I hope to finish somewhere between 2 hours and 30 minutes to 2 hours and 45 minutes. That is somewhere between a 12:30 and 13:00 mile pace. It should be a good race. This will be the second Half Marathon that I have walked.
