Need advice!!! Has anyone had AC joint issues and recovered? I have had nearly two weeks off swimming and physio has given me one exercise to do with a resistance band. Apparently it's called the robbery or hands up exercise - you start with hands crossed over then pull back and move arms into the hands up position as if being arrested. It seems to be giving me worse pain than had so far and wondering if he's making it worse??!!

I still have no idea what caused this as have never ever had shoulder issues. Only different exercise I did prior was one minute wall handstands but never felt any pain during or after those so ???

As I posted in another thread, I was guided to this by a master trainer at my gym (who also happens to be a swimmer), we were talking & I happened to mention I was having some discomfort in the joints in my shoulders. What he said is that the shoulder is a very unstable joint & swimming, particularly with all the overhead motion, is unnatural for humans & puts a lot of stress on the joints. These exercises are designed to strengthen the muscles in & around the shoulders to stabilize the joints - I don't have any more discomfort since I started doing them....

The caveat is that they are for the uninjured shoulder. You would need to speak to a doctor about what condition your shoulder is in before doing these, I would imagine if all you have is inflammation it would be ok to do them, but I wouldn't make any assumptions about it. If you poke around the USA Swimming site I believe there are other exercises for the shoulders, some for injury recovery & other sets for uninjured shoulders....

I hope this info helps, but PLEASE talk to a medical professional first - I'd hate to see you create an injury where it's only inflammation now or make an existing injury worse......
