Fibro diet, weight gain and losing it

Hi, I am new to Fitnesspal and the boards. Am struggling with the balance between eating a diet to relieve my fibro symptoms such as nuts, fruit, seeded bread etc and weight gain. The diet has worked to some extent and I don't want to give it up but due to the calorific content of nuts and seeds, I have put on weight. Scanning the items into my daily food diary horrified me. Has anyone else managed to achieve a good balance between the two?

Hi - I just came across your post today and wanted to add my experience in eating for fibro versus weight gain. I have had success with losing 30 lbs which I put on due to fibro inactivity and just eating my pre-fibro normal amounts & foods. It took me 4 years to put it on but 4 months to lose it. I eat gluten free which has greatly improved my IBS symptoms, joint & muscle pain, and sleep/fatigue issues. I am not substituting gluten free processed food for regular processed foods like cookies, cake, lasagna, etc. The only thing I switch out is gluten free bread for a piece of toast a couple times a week, and brown rice pasta a couple times a week. I concentrate on fresh lower carb vegetables, fibrous fruits, 0% fat greek yogourt, eggs, extra firm tofu, and extra lean meats, Remember to just use nuts and seeds in small amounts, best for breakfast, midmorning snack, or lunch.

There have been studies proving that the earlier in the day you eat your biggest calorie meal the easier it is to lose weight. Alive magazine for this month showed a study that compared two groups of women on the same diet and exercise regime. One group ate 700 cal breakfast, 500 cal lunch, 200 cal dinner, the other group did the opposite switching breakfast calories for dinner calories.

The big breakfast group lost 3 times the weight, twice the waist inches, and had major improvements in blood sugars, insulin, and triglyceride levels compared to the big dinner group. Do whatever you can for exercise and log it - even stretches on a bad day are good. I've been there! Another thing if you get a chance to try it is Water jogging in the deep end of the pool with flotation or gentle aquafit in the shallow end followed by a soak in the hot whirlpool. That helps me get my exercise in (interspersed with walking as briskly as I can) which will help 'use up' the calories.

If you wish you can friend me Diddidi63 (sounds like we may be very close in age lol) I will send you a message and once friends you can access my food diary for ideas.
Hang on - you can get there...
