Post-ops all have to be creative sometimes to get the correct amount of protein. You can be creative with what you put your protein powder in. I've put it in muffins, pudding, jello (it was nasty, don't try it!), casseroles, and yes oatmeal.
My newest favorite is my "Peanut Butter Cup Oatmeal"
1/2 cup (40 gm) any oatmeal - I've used quick and steel cut oats
1 scoop chocolate protein powder - I use Max Protein from SEI.
1 TBSP (12 gm) cocoa powder - I use Hersheys
4 TBSP (24 gm) PB 2 - http://www.amazon.com/PB2-Powdered-Peanut-Butter-6-5/dp/B002GJ9JWS
1 tsp sweetner - I use Stevia
1 cup unsweetened Almond milk - I use this: http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/products/almond-plus-almond-milk-beverages/unsweetened-almond-plus-almond-milk-beverage
Mix all the dry ingredients together, then pour in milk and mix very well. Then nuke in the microwave for about 1:30 or 2 minutes.
This stuff is good! I think it really does taste like a candy bar.
Stats on this baby, 411 calories with 43 grams of protein, 10 grams of fat, 46 carbs with 10 of that being fiber, and 5 of it being sugar.
Yes, this recipe by volume is for more mature pouches, but you can make it take two or three servings depending on how much you eat at once. This could probably be tolerated by those on soft diets still, but the oatmeal may turn some off. I didn't eat starchy carbs until at least 6 months post surgery.
