My gym is currently doing a paleo challenge; the rules being to eat 90% paleo for 60 days. We were tested in 4 activities before the challenge began (1000m row, mile run, dead lift, back squat) and will be tested again after the challenge ends. Whoever shows the most improvement wins.

The challenge started on Feb 1st so I am one week in. So far, it has not been as hard as I thought it would be. I have had a lot of fun trying new recipes and cooking up a storm. To this point I have seen no change in my energy/performance levels. Of course, I am helped by the fact that I consulted with a dietician before the challenge started and she told me that I was not eating enough so maybe it is all the extra food which has made the transition easier.

Awesome! I love challenges! But what are the guidelines for 90%? Mark Sisson says to strive for 100% and the rare treat/deviation is your 20% so that you end up at 80% If you go into it thinking 80% than you'll likely do less.

My gym challenge is over next week and I wish it would have been a 60 day challenge instead of a 30 day one. Paleo can be easy to follow one you fall into the routine and get used to saying no to the grains and sugary treats. I think of food more as fuel rather than comfort now.

Can't wait to hear your results!

But what are the guidelines for 90%?

The only guideline for the 90% is to follow the paleo lifestyle so no grain, legumes, or dairy. But It is not as strict as a Whole 30. For the 10% of the time you are not eating paleo then have whatever you want.

It takes 2 to 3 weeks to notice changes in your performance, and the change is overnight. One day you will realize the WOD is a little easier than another, ect, ect,ect
