Let me Introduce myself...

Hi everyone. I'm Whitney. I'm 21 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS after a rapid 60lb weight gain in 6 months. I had been told by my fiances mother that she thought that's what I had and that I should go to the doctor (this was before the weight gain. It was because of excess hair on my face). However, I did not want to believe it so I stalled and now I am in a worse position weight wise than before.

I weighed 265lbs. I have dropped 10lbs since starting on Metformin more than 6 months ago.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 13 and had cysts removed.
The only thing that really helps me is keeping my carbs lower than most.
I've been aiming for less than 30% since the start of the year, and have been getting comments about how good I look.
My fitness assessment next week will tell for sure how I'm doing!
I did try metformin for a couple of months a while back, but I found it didn't help me.
  • Well, Hello! I have found my way here through an internet search. I have been told I have PCOS and am possibly suffering from hypothyroid issues. Yah! NOT! I have read a ton online and much of it is confusing.

just wanted to ask you which medication are you following at present? or is it that going ompletely medication free and following low carb diet helping you out?

how did your doctor figure out that metformin is not working out for you?

The only prescription I am on currently is birth control. I have found that when I hold strictly to a diet of 30% of less of carbs with my 2200 calorie goal, I'm pretty successful. I have had my insulin resistance tested, and was told I am not resistant but likely to still be sensitive to it.
My doctor took me off the metformin when I didn't lose any weight or see much improvement in my other symptoms. However, this was probably 10 years ago. I have also tried phentermine and only lost 4 pounds in 2 months. I was pulled right off of that as well.
I have found that food has worked the best for me. Lower carb has helped me with my energy levels, I sleep better, and just in general feel better.
