Hi Everyone,
Glad I found this group on MFP! I hope to make some friends here I've lost 30 lbs. It's taken me over a year to do it, and I do have a long way to go, but I'm thankful I've come this far. I have type 1 diabetes, thyroid issues and a lot of diabetic nerve pain, on top of the fibromyalgia. Every day is a painful one...however, I've discovered I feel much worse when I give in to the pain and am still. I have to keep moving even though it hurts. Hopefully, I can be an encouragement to some, and of course I appreciate encouragement too!

Hi Pattie,
I was diagnosed with fibro 8 years ago. And you're right, giving in to the pain only makes it worse.
I started my journey early 2013 and have had incredible success in keeping my symptoms at bay with nutrition and exercise. After identifying my trigger foods and eliminating them, I ended up vegan and I eat completely clean now. I also have exercised 5-6 days per week since March - and I've never missed a single workout. I started out in excruciating pain - 24/7 - and after completing one fitness program, the pain was gone. I have been able to go from barely making it up a flight of stairs to hiking and from hiking to climbing to the summit of 13,000 foot mountains. I've done incredibly difficult cardio programs that would've been impossible before. I haven't even had any symptoms since March 2013. No pain, nothing at all! That proves how important nutrition and exercise are for us!
Anyway, it's awesome to find other fibro warriors that are pushing hard to make things better. Keep it up

Hi Pattie & Wendy: I hope you are still on MFP. These are old posts but pertinent. I was diagnosed 4 years ago after a serious lung infection - and the sucky part is that my whole career was in the Fitness & Physio Rehabilitation industry. It was VERY HARD to come to terms with my debilitation, but with the help of my MD who is also into natural solutions to health problems and my Rheumatologist I determined that I would not use drugs, but try changing my diet and using natural supplements to deal with this. Thanks to going totally gluten free (I had been wheat free for a while with limited health success) I have pretty well conquered my muscle/joint pain & IBS and am able to exercise again (previously not being able to amble two flat blocks). I still have issues once in a while with disordered sleep and my arthritis from car & work accidents, but on the whole I am feeling better. I take reishi mushroom extract to help with the energy pathways in the mitochondria and it works for me. I don't push it on anyone else as there are many different modalities for dealing with FM and everyone has a different experience.
Hoping to keep in touch on this forum group.
