Hi to anyone that cares to read this.
On January first I took the plunge and made some changes in my life. The first which has been a killer forever was to stop drinking pop (not a drop since :-)). The next was to try to actually do something about my weight for once. I started out at around 320 lbs at the beginning of the year but didnt discover MFP until yesterday. It looks cool and I love phone apps so I thought I would try it. Up to this point I have been using sHealth on my phone and my galaxy gear to track steps. I am down to 307 now and I hope with the addition of MFP i can get a better handle on goals.
My first question is, I walk about an hour a day at lunch. But my step counter goes and resets itself at midnight (importing to the phone along the way). When it comes to tracking exercise, should I just count the steps during that hour of formal exercise or record for the whole day? I wasn't sure because it seems that your calorie goal is based on your normal activity which might suggest that the other times are baked in.
I like to use the app too so if anyone wants to be friends so you have something more to do in that app., please invite me. (I am male 44 yrs. but i'll chat with any friendly soul). Hope to here from anyone out there.

Hi and welcome! If you're using a Fitbit, you can sync it to your MFP account so that your steps are reflected. For instance, if I have a high number of steps on a given day, MFP gets that info and increases my calorie goal proportionately. Not sure about other devices though. But I'd think that if your device isn't say he'd to MFP, then you'd enter your walking under exercise.
Hope this helps!0 -
Welcome to the group. It's nice to have a male perspective in the group.
You are my hero for giving up soda. It is by far my biggest addiction.0
