% carbs, fat, protein

I believe it is possible to change the recommended % for carb, fat and protein given in Mfp. Does anyone know what are the recommended %s for Type 2 diabetics?

Thanks
Lynda

  • The most recent nutrition recommendations for people with T2 diabetes avoid giving specific percentages for carbohydrate, protein and fat and instead recommend that each person be assessed for the most appropriate eating plan for their individual situation. This is a great discussion to have with your physician and/or diabetes educator/dietitian. ~Lynn /Glucerna

One of the most frustrating things is, each of us is unique when it comes to how our bodies react to the foods we eat in conjunction with any diabetes medications we take to include our individualized unique approach to our blood sugar management goals.

To that end, you're likely to get varied responses. I'm insulin dependent using a mealtime (bolus, on a sliding scale to treat my carbs consumed ) insulin to treat my carb choices and have chosen a moderate carbohydrate and fat load, (cuz I loves my carbs and fat. ) and stick a plan consuming; 40% Carbohydrates, 30% fat and 20% protein to meet my goals.

The trick being finding out what works for you by eating to your meter, adjusting those choices accordingly to meet your goals or eliminating some choices altogether when necessary.

    YDMV (your diabetes may vary).

    Good luck Lynda!
