I AM my own worst enemy!

I have really been struggling with controlling my emotional eating but then the smallest things set me off and I tumble off that wagon. Lately the worst part is the evenings. I get down about something and just think, "screw it" and pig out when I know I'm not hungry. Then I'm miserable the rest of the night & go to sleep with a swig of Mylanta to help the tummy trouble.

I KNOW I feel better when I stop when I'm full or not eat if I'm not hungry but some days I just can't seem to stop. Any suggestions on fighting that internal agitator?

  • sadly the only lasting remedy is to really have other outlets that work for you... until you have a valid substitute that makes you feel better, it's gonna be hard for you to let go of this coping mechanism. I mean to not eat it basically means "yes I will just continue to feel bad and be filled with discomfort and suffer and wait it out "... very few people are gonna accept that. Most of us are gonna look for a fix that kills the bad feelings/thoughts. But the good news is that if you build new habits then you will have the instinct to do the alternative things when you feel bad and you will no longer go automatically to food for comfort...

Thanks! Good food for thought. I'm working on finding an alternative. I talk with a friend of mine yesterday and she told me to be sure & call her instead of calling for take out. :)
I appreciate all your support!!!! :flowerforyou:

Calling a friend is a great alternative! Ever heard of urge surfing? Yea, me neither until I saw this link posted in another thread and think its a neat theory. Maybe this is something we could all try?
