Nauseous in hot yoga?

I love hot yoga and Baptiste yoga. I burn a lot of calories, get a really diverse work out and feel relaxed after class. I also get to see way more improvements in the way my body moves compared to just hopping on the elliptical. That said, I got pretty sick during my hot class last night and had to excuse myself from the room to cool off. I have gotten nauseous before, but never like last night. I find that most of my problems come after transitioning into standing poses. I try to bring myself up very slowly into standing poses, but I still get lightheaded and nauseous. What am I doing wrong? :embarassed:

Are you talking about lightheadedness after forward bends?

My chiropractor I am seeing right now was talking about hot yoga. He said he has tried it at around 95 degrees and then another class higher than that. He said he felt like the 95 degrees was high enough. In the hotter classes he says he is too distracted by the heat to get as much benefit from the yoga. Maybe it was a tad higher in there when you got sick than it normally is?

talk to your instructor. In general, they can tell you to lay low or what you need to do to acclimate over time if you desire to keep doing hot yoga. For me, it wasn't worth it.

(the heat doesn't make you burn more calories, I know Baptiste is a crazy intense vinyasa tho so that definitely burns some calories :) )

Are you hydrating enough before class? Our bodies aren't used to extreme temperatures. Hot yoga can be crazy dangerous (false flexibility, people passing out etc) Are you eating enough before class so your body has energy to expend (early enough so you don't feel heavy when you get to the studio)
