my fasting BG this morning was 124 it has ranged from 118 to 126 in the morning for the last 2 weeks
but by 12 to 2 pm I bottomed out at 60 to 69 this number usually an hour after eating lunch

I have been eating breakfast ( which is somthing I use to never do)
a morning snack and lunch but for some reason after lunch my blood sugar goes low and I get shaky, sweaty, and feeling like I will pass out which led me to check my BG at this time. Since this has been happening been checking 3 times aday and morning still higher then I want noon lower then should be and evening looks good betwee 80 and 89

My doctor has backed me off of my glepazide to only 5 mlgrms at night only from 10 twice aday just this week it has been adjusted twice and still getting low numbers in afternoon

not sure why

Hmmmmm... I'd say IXNAY on the Lucky Charms. They're FULL of sugar..and then you pour milk on them and the milk reacts with the carbs and sugar to basically triple the sugar reaction.

Try oatmeal (the regular Quaker Oats, not the instant kind) with Splenda and cinnamon.
Or a couple of scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast.
Or a whole-wheat mini bagel with a slice of turkey, some non-fat yogurt and half a banana

Did your tuna casserole snack have pasta in it?

You don't necessarily have to have "breakfast food" for breakfast. And sugary cereal is probably worse than NO food at all, sad to say. But at least you are making the effort to eat bkfst, and that is a GOOD thing!

I like half a whole wheat English Muffin with tuna on it, and some fruit.
Think outside the (cereal) box. Look for protein. Make an egg sandwich, toast an English muffin with cheese and a slice of
    chicken... stuff like that.

the reason I started eating lucky charms was to try and bring my noon blood sugar up. Tried Oatmeal, ferina, just eating toast even tried toast and eggs. not a big breakfast person

yes the tuna casserole had pasta in it.

I will try your suggestion thank you Crisbrue

I eat a salad for lunch most days and it is not uncommon or my blood sugar to be the same after lunch or lower than it was before. There just aren't many carbs in my salad. My afternoons are also when I am most likely to go low.

Try eating a few carbs with lunch. I've been adding a serving of fruit with lunch and that seems like it helps.

I have found a high protein breakfast gives me a steady blood sugar all morning. I usually have plain non-fat greek yogurt mixed with flavored protein powder. The yoghurt has natural sugars, and as it is digested protein keeps my blood sugar steady. No big spikes or lows.

Listen to scubasuenc. She said what I was going to say. In my experience, my lowest time is usually afternoon - 3:30/4:00. I have recently been in the 70s and even once 68. And even when my morning BG is a little high, it tends to drop during the day and into the evening.

Be sure you are eating a good (healthy) carb for lunch along with your protein and fat servings. You shouldn't spike if you have a balance of carb, protein and fat.

Did you say you take a glipazide? I once took that class of drug and it did cause some big-time lows. I couldn't tolerate it.

By the way, I did a google search and it mentioned drug interactions that would cause low BG. One was Nsaids - like Advil/ibuprofin. Could that be possible?

My lowest time is also midday. but it's never too low. I had problems with my fasting and swtiched around a few things. Try to ake my lunch the heavest carb wise although it doesn't always work. out that way. I take one cinammon capsule in AM, and then 2 apple cider vinegar capsule in the evenng if I haven't been able to get the ACV in during the day. (Not a fan of drinking it but will)

My fasting is now down to the 90's in the AM. If I get up during the night I always found it low and then by morning higher. My gaol is to keep it below 100 and so far it has been working. I't now lower in the the morning than during the night.

But if I ate Lucky Charms at any time mine would spike something fierce. I'd rather drink a glass of organic unsweetened apple juice if it gets too low. But I'm lucky that it hasn't I do take Metformin but only 2-500 mg a day. I promsed my doc I would take the other 2 ONLY if I couldn't get it down with diet. So far so good.

breakfast this morning was 1/2 of a sourdough english muffin and a poached egg
mornign snack not sure as of yet but thinking greek yougort but IDK yet
  • Changing from Lucky Charms to the English muffin and egg is a great idea for breakfast! Glipizide is a type of medication that can cause blood sugar levels to drop, and it's important to make sure that you're including carbohydrate in your meals. Since you're having lows after lunch, be sure to include carbohydrate in both the morning snack (Greek yogurt is a good idea) and lunch and that should help. Also, if you're active during the day that could cause your blood sugar levels to drop faster than you might expect. Keep working with your doctor and you'll figure out what works best for you. ~Lynn /Glucerna
