Today's paper (yes, people over 60 still read newspapers!) had a feature on this subject. We've all read the obvious advice, but they did make some interesting points.
Load up on fruits and vegetables. If you can't find good ones in season, frozen make a good substitute.
Think about restaurant meals ahead, and it's OK to make special requests. (They are certainly used to my asking for sauces and dressings "on the side")
Be sure to have healthy snacks available: carb. & protein make the best combination, yogurt & fruit, p.b. and crackers, (Laughing Cow cheese is lower in calories!) or string cheese and an apple.

My Challenge for the month: Try at least one new, and healthy food. There are probably several that you've seen on this site and have been meaning to try: Quinoa, Jicama, Kale, Kiwi fruit, etc. etc. Have fun with it!

The Healthy snacks sounds like a great idea...... I always mean to be healthy with snacks and fruit and veg but it doesn't seem to work out that way too often

One of the best things I have done for myself in the past year is to buy a juicer! They have a great one on Amazon.com for slightly less than $100. I buy a a bag of Kale every week and whatever fruits are on sale and I always add a lemon (when juicing with lemons always include the peel. Makes the juice soooo fragrant!) My favorite combo so far is an apple, lemon, kale, and two carrots. Either with breakfast or as a snack during the day I have my juice! And I can feel the difference when I neglect it for a while!
