Feeling... Stupid but happy?

Reading through all of these posts just makes so much sense. I kept asking myself questions like:
"Why am I putting so much energy into my diet and my workout and going nowhere?"
"Why do my flatmates weigh so much less than me when they eat more and never workout?"
"Why am I always the worst in my kickboxing class, rockclimbing, whatever?"
"Why am I going on these uncontrollable food binges?"
and getting really frustrated with myself.

Ohhhh, maybe it's because I was only eating 1200-1500 calories a day, and that's not enough for me!! Duh. I'm really excited to try with my TDEE calculations etc. - not because I'll be able to fit milkshakes and junk food into my calorie goals, but because it will be a lot easier to keep my eating from these crazy swings, which means a lot less getting down on myself, and I think I'll finally start to keep up with everybody else in my fitness classes!

Even if I don't lose weight at a higher goal, it's probably worth it just to preserve my sanity.

Good job noticing all the signs.
And once you can compare your own performance prior and after the change, get ready then!

Don't view it as eating at a higher goal, view it as eating at a reasonable deficit, rather than extreme diet, to power your exercise while you lose weight.

Congratulations on making some amazing discoveries! Everything you mentioned is almost certainly the result of under-eating.

Once you have figured out your TDEE, I would suggest just taking your time and working up to that number over several weeks. This may allow you to avoid that initial jump on the scale that so many see when they just jump right to TDEE (it also gives your body some time to adjust and acclimate to the new, increased intake...) Once you get up to TDEE and are stable there, you can always start a moderate 15% cut if you are interested in dropping some weight.

So happy you are taking on this new way of life! I am sure you will be thrilled with your new found energy levels, and most likely, your desire to binge will all but disappear, because you will not be starving your body any more!

Make sure you keep us updated on your progress...
  • Congrats at putting it together. Don't feel stupid at all. You, me and alot of other people experienced the same thing. I'm still new to the game. I'm moving into the place in my journey where i'm starting to fear dropping my calories......who would of thought! Keep moving in the positive direction :-)
