I was wondering if the women here have noticed an increase in vaginal infections or dryness after starting the keto diet. I do work in the health professions and learned something in a conference which made me wonder if that could be a side effect of this diet.

I would think less sugar in the diet would mean less infections. No for me as well

Well shoot, there goes that theory. The bacteria in the vagina which keeps the ph low apparently need glycogen to lower the ph. If you're glycogen depleted, perhaps the ph would rise, predisposing to infections and odor. Oh well. Thanks for the help!

I am a guy who snuck into this thread.

Your body produces glucose from protein when it needs it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluconeogenesis

There are neurons in the brain that are so small, they don't have cellular mitochondria for burning ketones, so when in Keto, the body makes glucose to feed them. It's likely the same for other glucose-related needs.
