“We would often be sorry if our wishes were gratified.” – Aesop
“For today: Though my wants far outstrip my needs, I know that sanity and balance for me is to bring them even.”
I loved reading this passage today. It reminds us to be careful what we wish for. I used to wish to be skinny, I was caught up in the vanity of losing weight. Then I was told that I have type 2 diabetes. My prayers changed from skinny to healthy, which then progressed to strength to abstain so that I can be healthy. The beauty of this program is that it guides us through the process of addressing our disease, it’s not a diet. Losing weight becomes the result of addressing our issues.
I hope everyone is having a great abstinent day!

This is exactly where I am right now. It is no longer my primary goal to be skinny. Instead, my goal is to understand how and why I have been abusing food so that I can stop, and treat myself and those around me better in the process. If I'm successful with that, I expect the weight loss to come in time, but I'm no longer trying specifically to lose weight.0 -
It definitely brings things into perspective. Needs vs. Wants. I used to think my wants were actually needs. It's amazing what a little wisdom will do. Thank you for sharing this!0
