Gosh whenver I try to educate people about low carb they always have to be so rude. They always have to drink the kool aid from whatever the FDA says or .gov Sure you can lose weight if you eat fat free and eat high carbs but that requires exercising. if you do low carb you can lose weight and when I do exercise it becomes more pleasureable.
I see how weed must be akward to write about on the .gov sites as its legal in some states and evil in others.

I found most people seem to respond more to the science, when I approach it from that direction. I never meant to make anyone see things my way. My only reason for talking about it was to explain how I wasn't intentionally harming myself in order to lose weight. As it happens, I've got my own cult following at this point. I have several friends, my fiancee, and at least four coworkers on the low-carb bandwagon (to some degree).

They have seen my success, talked to me about the science, and seen my blood work to prove that I am not just in complete denial.

Uhm... 'kay. Not sure what this has to do with low-carb.

I think its rude to talk about it when others don't ask about it. Whether you're eating low calorie, low carb, paleo, vegan...I really don't care what they eat, but if someone asks how I lost weight I'll tell them. Then they usually come back with "I couldn't imagine not having bread!". Yeah, do I like bread sure...but for ME it's about feeling more full after eating. I don't like hearing from someone that I should be limiting my fat, or eating raw so I wouldn't do that to someone else.

You don't HAVE to exercise to lose weight whether you're eating low carb, low calorie, low fat, paleo, etc. You can eat low calorie, eat under maintanence, not exercise and still lose weight.

If you're referring to another post on mfp, it's because you do have some incorrect information. You don't HAVE to exercise to lose weight on any diet/lifestyle.

You eat under the calorie allowance. Just like how low carb works. You eat in a calorie deficit. The benefit to eating low carb is typically people feel more full, which means less eating, which gets you to a calorie deficit. People may exercise to "earn" more calories so they can eat more, but its not a requirement.

I see myself not going into starvation mode so maybe they require too many calories? Before on the low calorie diet i was ALWYAS thinking about food and when was my next meal. fighting off those cravings were quite the challenge.

    Good one.

I don't preach either. If people ask, I tell them what I'm doing, but if they don't ask, I don't tell. Some have noticed what I eat or rather what I DON'T eat when we go out, and the overall response has been positive. They mention others they know who lost weight on low-carb.

I find the General Board on MFP is not very low-carb friendly at all. It's more about IIFYM approach, which didn't work well for me as keto.

People typically don't like to be told that what they're doing is wrong, especially when it's been working for them thus far. For this reason, and many others, I don't "preach" anything. Diet is a very personal thing that may sometimes come with a lot of controversial opinions. Kinda like religion, really. Trying to tell people what they "should" believe and "should" do is just asking for aggression.

I tend to follow a few rules. If people ask about my diet, I'll tell them. If they say nothing, neither will I. If I'm out to eat, I'll make choices that fit my macros. If people ask me for dieting advice, I ask them what their macro goals are and advise them from there. I approach issues only from a science-related perspective, and never advocate my diet. It's not my job to make people keto. It's not my job to tell people that I don't agree with the food pyramid. I will gladly help guide a keto newbie or give recipes to someone asking for something low carb, but I'm not about to start a discussion no one wants to hear.

Also, you can lose weight on a high carb diet without exercising. It boils down to calorie intake and expenditure. Carbs are great for athletes, yes, and you tend to see a lot of athletes be high carb, but that doesn't mean you can't lose weight while eating pasta, bread, and cupcakes. You just eat a calorie deficit. I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say that you're not entering starvation mode somethingsomething other people may have too many calories... it's all the same. Some people, even when their goal is 1200 calories a day, can do it high carb. Some can do it high fat. Some can do it vegetarian, some vegan, some paleo, heck, some fruititarian. It's not up to us to tell people how they do it.

Honest question, isn't that a general approach that can also cover keto, or am I mistaken? I assumed it's generally eating "clean", eating to what suits your desired macros specified towards muscle preservation and fat burning, and maintaining a caloric deficit.

I get that they're often not low-carb friendly, but they mostly tend to respond to people who ignore calories or outside advice regarding nutrition. Or those that praise low carb diets as some magic fix when they've been at it for only a couple of weeks. I've never had any issues in the general forums.
