I actually have a 10K sticker that won't stick to my back window. It keeps falling off. Maybe it's trying to tell me something?

I do plan on getting my 13.1 sticker after I finish in a couple of weeks. Not sure what the big deal is as far what race accomplishment you want to advertise on the back of your car or if you walked a couple of miles of it or whatever. If you cross both start and finish lines on your own 2 feet, then be proud of it.

Or one foot. Or wheelchair. It's a big umbrella.

I thought this was about sad stickers, "bummer" stickers. Maybe a "DNF" or "26.1" or a silhouette of a treadmill?

    I. WANT. A. 26.1 STICKER!!!!

You know that Galloway has coached people to run/walk to Boston qualifying times? Enough said.

Yeahbut...how fast could they have gone if they ran the whole way?

Don't answer. Tongue in cheek response. That's a debate for another thread. :D

They would have gone 2 minutes per mile faster for the first 20 miles and then they would have hobbled the last 10k because their hamstrings completely seized up.

    Or not.

There is no real way to prove that using the Galloway method will result in a faster time. You can't use those that ran a marathon and then they Gallowalked one because the training for the second one improved their fitness.

I won't poo poo Galloway. I think it's a great way to get more people involved. I just dispute his claim that a specific, well trained runner will run a faster marathon using his method than they would running the entire way. Too many variables that just can't be controlled.

I have a 13.1 and 26.2 sticker on my car. I also have a sub 4 sticker from provensport.com for the 3 marathons I've run sub 4 hours. I had to prove I ran it in order for them to give it to me. I thought that was cool. I also have one that says Half Marathon Mom because the half is my favorite fun distance. Like Zakela, I would flaunt the 5k sticker if I were exceptionally good or fast at it. But I'm not, so I don't own it. I wouldn't snicker at it either because I know how incredibly hard that distance is for me. I don't warm up till at least 6 miles! My husband has ran 3 half marathons & a trail 30k. He just recently got himself a 13.1 sticker & I think it's something for him to brag about. He is a run/walk person with a half PR of 2:05. Pretty good in my opinion.

So since I dropped out of the 50-mile at 50K do I qualify for a 50K sticker? Or should I go for DNF? They definitely exist!

I plan on run/walking my first full this year because it's easier on my legs to take the walk breaks! In my first 1/2 I wanted to run the whole thing but ended up taking 2 walk breaks on some serious inclines, but you can be sure my 13.1 sticker still went on my car! In my second 1/2, I ran every step, but I only finished min faster than before! Since training for this marathon, I have been walking for 1 min and the beginning of every mile. On my 14 mile long run I got a pr in the 13.1 distance by 2 more mins run/walking! So it is definitely possible to be faster run/walking, but it is personal preference, and certainly doesn't make me any less of a "runner"!

I'm not arguing that at all. I ran with a Galloway runner for the second part of my half marathon because I was scared of not being able to finish. My time for that race is really slow compared to the others I've done. However, I'm confident about the distance (with training) now.

You'd need a controlled study to say for sure.

However, if you tell me that somebody who BQs "isn't a runner" because they walked for 3 miles out of 26.2...I'm going to know that you aren't a runner. :)

ETA: I really shouldn't have answered that should I? :ohwell:

You are a runner. He is not. There are some things that runners just KNOW. Like how effin far 26.2 miles is.

I think it's fine to put a sticker on your car if that's your thing if you finish the distance. It doesn't matter if you ran all of it or not. I can tell you that there is no earthly way ever I will be able to actually run 100% of ultras. That's elite territory as far as I'm concerned. Walking up hills is OK in my book.

Seriously, I think people put it on their car because they are proud...and they should be. As the saying goes, no matter how slow you lapped the person sitting on the couch. :)

I have only been running about a year but I am learning that "runner" snobs are some of the nastiest. Thankfully, there doesnt seem to be too many of them.

And they get best down by some pretty decent runners pretty regularly...

I've always made fun of those stickers but truth be told (making sure my face is hidden in profile pic) if I finish my first full this month I secretly wish I could put the sticker on my truck.....but I've talked waaay too much crap over the years.

I may just stick it on my bathroom mirror and stare at it for long periods of time when no one is looking. Maybe take a selfie or two with it.

I admire anyone who I see with a sticker for any distance on their vehicle. As for me, I'm up to where my longest run was 4 miles last week (shooting for 4.5 my next long weekend run) and am registered for a 10K at the end of April.

I'll wait until completing a half marathon (have one circled on the calendar for late July) to put a sticker on my vehicle though. I suppose if I put that 13.1 sticker on my car some of those running marathons or longer might look down upon me, but I'll be proud for having done so. (Especially considering a little over a year ago I couldn't run more than a few blocks without stopping).

I *ahem* may have been guilty of some judgy thoughts about tutus during races. Live and learn, right?

Okay, but.... there's a practical reason to have a sticker on your car. It's getting to races and meeting your friends for a run. Before it got totaled, I had one of ultrarunnerpodcast's ">26.2" stickers on my car. I was on my way to a race, and missed the turn off. The car behind me FOLLOWED ME a quarter of a mile flashing his headlights. I pulled over and he did too, then he told me I'd missed the turn. I have a bunch more stories like that.

No distance stickers but my hitch cover reads "The slower I run the more alone time I get". I love it because when I do my runs my hubby watches the kids. I have been know to do some really really slow runs on days when the kids are in rare form.

I have a 13.1 sticker on my car. My husband insisted I get it as I've gone kinda crazy with running halves. Tomorrow will be my 9th since December 1st:) I'm kinda a private person so I am kinda uneasy about it? I know, I'm weird. I share my obsession/love with running with my family and friends but not so much with my coworkers if that makes sense.

As said before... It is an identifying factor. I love following the running bumper stickers to a race and from a race. Last Saturday, when I was deciding where to park, I found a parking lot with cars with stickers so I knew it was a good spot:)

    On another note.....

My husband also liked when we had the >26.2 bumper sticker on the car. He used to like to pass people on the highway that had a 26.2 bumper sticker. It amused him.

Another time, we were at an orchard picking apples in truly horrendous weather. (44, raining, windy). So there weren't many people there, despite it being prime picking season. We just bundled up. My husband went back to our car for something, and found that another car had parked next to us, with a Leadville 100 sticker on it. We scanned the orchard and spotted him immediately. Actually, we spotted his kids - they were running through the mud and trees like maniacs, as were my kids.... One look at him and we knew it was Leadville guy (confirmed when we saw him drop the apples in his car). We watched him peering around the orchard trying to find the other ultrarunner. He never did, though - he kept sizing up the guys and not the women. We were, again, very amused.

I never cared about having one before, but when I complete my next half (probably fall/winter 2014) I am seriously considering one. I've come from not being able to run at all (injuries & lack of fitness) so it will be a big deal to me.

It I ever did a 5K for American Kidney Association I would put it as a bumper sticker.

I recently lost my mom to failed kidneys.

I currently don't have any stickers.
