I did Week 5 Day 1 today. It was HARD. I didn't think I was going to make it. I did though so I am going to do the next one on my next day off (I can't remember if that's Tuesday or Wednesday). It's going to hurt. :frown:
I know now the place I'm running is far too short for 5k, it's about 3k around, so I'm going to have to double back slightly and take an alternative route. I need to find a map for that patch of woods.

Your'e doing great. Hang in there. Don't stop running if you're having difficulties, try to slow down instead.
The aim right now is to make it through the running sessions. Don't worry about speed. Hardly anyone ends the program being able to run 5K in 30 minutes. It's a rarity, for sure. But you will be able to run 30 minutes, which you'll be able to build on and speed will happen naturally as you get stronger.
Week 5 is tough. It's a mental challenge for yourself, more than a physical one. Your body is ready. Now it's time to wrap your mind around it. You can do it.

I'll add a comment here rather than in the Daily thread. I'm very excited to have at least one other member running the same week as I am, as it's really helpful and motivating for me to have seen your posts so far. Hopefully I'll report back tomorrow that I've done W5D3 successfully and good luck to you, too, it's a fun one!

I am actually terrified of that one. Two runs, both quite long. EKK!
I'd love to see how you did.

I just did W5 D2 and while it was hard I did do it in my average time. I had to keep the self talk up a lot 'you can do this, it's only a little run, don't forget you're going the other way at the next turn, you're going great' and all that!!

It's a mental battle as well as a physical one. I was much more out of breath today but determined to do it. I'd kind of like to repeat it even though I didn't fail because these have been so hard. I do think it's a mental issue there. I can (probably) do the next one. If I fail, I'll just do it next time.
Also there were more people around today which was odd given it's been raining on and off all day, Kinda helped me keep going.

I wrote what I hope is an encouraging reply in the Daily thread, in case you didn't see it yet. You can do it, many have before you and you are ready, your body can handle it if you've reached W5D2.

    ETA
I think it's exactly what you say, a mental struggle above all and it's good to recognise it. And as you say, what's really the worst that can happen? Re-taking. That's not the end of the world now, is it, but slowing down at first is a better choice than giving up without even giving it a fair shot. You've worked so hard already and your body deserves to show the mind what it is capable of; let it show you!

So I forgot to post about W5D3. That went well.

    W6D1 sucked. Really sucked.

I didn’t stop though and I’m happy I didn’t. The distance and pace audio cues decided not to work and it made it worse. At least with those cues I have some idea what I’m doing, if I need to speed up or slow down. I freaking missed them today.
I was so freaking ready to quit when it told me too. I just felt like I didn’t do anything good at all. According to the GPS I did make it further than I thought and it’s almost 4k. Excitingly that means I should hit 5k on my final runs.

A bit of me wants to do this over again but I did do it so maybe moving on is the better idea. What do you think?

Everyone has bad workouts from time to time. Since you have managed to do W5D3, I'd keep going to W6D2; it was technical problems this time more than anything else, right? Now that you have a really bad experience up your sleeve, you can put better ones in the perspective they deserve and I'd say this is a perfect example of "Done is better than perfect".

I agree with this. You have an entire life ahead of you as a runner. Some runs are going to suck. Some runs are going to be perfect jewels that you treasure in your memory forever. There are going to be technical problems (one time Endomondo decided that i was running a mile every minute and a half, there was one c25k run where my battery failed right after the halfway point, so I didn't know where to stop)

This is a single run. Put it behind you and move on.

I took the approach you've been taking to date - I tried every run, with the thought that I would repeat it if I couldn't complete it but otherwise I'd keep moving on. Even when I thought they were crazy ("you want me to do WHAT???") I tried it, and I never did have to repeat a run. Nothing wrong with repeating them if you have to, but I chose to at least try instead of assuming I wouldn't be able to do it, and I surprised myself over and over and over again. I had a horrible time with W6D1 too. Completing W5D3 was such a high that it felt even worse to have the next run suck. But like Varda said...some runs just suck.

I took the advice and moved onto the next one. I did it and it didn't suck as much as the last one. It sucked but I did it. I think unless I fail I am just going to keep going.

I've got to have another break in my running because I am busy this weekend. It's not work for a change. Tomorrow I head out to Coventry, then I'm off to a SciFi convention on Saturday and on Sunday I'm off to a beauty expo. Then I can't run until Wednesday. Here's hoping the 20 min run doesn't kill me.

You are maybe two weeks to two months off from a run that doesn't suck.

Damn I hope it's sooner that that. Lol!

Did W6D3 today. Solid 20 minute run. I really didn't think I was going to make it and I caught myself almost starting to walk. However I think that had more to do with the fact I left my app on KPH and I didn't know what that was in mph. I was faster than usual. I'll have to watch that.

Well done! I'm glad I saw your app comment first in the other thread, because my W6D3 is 25 minutes running. W7 all three are 25, W8 are 28 min and W9 30 min.

There you go. Perfect. Great learning - you can actually slow down while you are running and avoid walking. I still work on this sometimes.

Week 7 can suck for some people (like me, as an example). Week 8 and 9 have the potential to be awesome. Week 17 is about when you notice yourself getting faster without any more effort.

I'm currently on week 78 or something. I expect to get quite a bit faster again sometime next year, if I can ever work out my form issues

I'm on Week 54. Three weeks ago I was about ready to quit running because I had so many bad runs in a row, but I reached out to one of the runners on this site who helped talk me off the wall. I'm back to loving it again.

I have no idea what actual week I'm on, so I'm gonna check.
    *checks*
    Week 8, if in total.

The run5k app goes like this always with a 5 minute warm up and cool down

Week 1 is all the same ~ repeat 5 times, jog 45 secs, walk 90 secs, then jog 45 secs, walk 60 secs

Week 2 is all the same ~ repeat 3 times, jog 60 secs, walk 90 secs, then jog 60 secs, walk 2 mins

Week 3 is all the same ~ repeat 2 times, jog 2 mins, walk 2 mins, then jog 3 mins and walk 2 mins

    Week 4 Day 1 & 2 ~ jog 3 mins, walk 3 mins, jog 4 mins, walk 3 mins, jog 5 mins
Week 4 Day 3 ~ jog 3 mins, walk 3 mins, jog 6 mins, walk 3 mins, jog 4 mins

Week 5 Day 1 ~ jog 5 mins, walk 2 mins, jog 7 mins, walk 2 mins, jog 5 mins
Week 5 Day 2 ~ jog 5 mins, walk 2 mins, jog 8 mins, walk 2 mins, jog 3 mins
    Week 5 Day 3 ~ jog 8 mins, walk 2 mins, jog 10 mins

    Week 6 Day 1 ~ jog 6 mins, walk 1 min, jog 12 mins
    Week 6 Day 2 ~ jog 10 mins, walk 1 min, jog 8 mins
    Week 6 Day 3 ~ jog for 20 mins

    Week 7 Day 1 ~ jog 15 mins, walk 2 mins, jog 5 mins
    Week 7 Day 2 ~ jog 20 mins, walk 2 mins, run 1 min
    Week 7 Day 3 ~ jog 22 mins, walk 1 min, run 1 min

    Week 8 Day 1 ~ jog for 25 mins
    Week 8 Day 2 ~ jog for 28 mins
    Week 8 Day 3 ~ jog for 30 mins

    I hope that helps!

The biggest difference is toward the end and it just more compact. I might switch to that if I get bored and want to move on to C25K+, since I won't be up on 5K when finishing anyway. Thanks for posting, now I'll be even less surprised if someone confuses me in the daily thread :)
