Help with life habbits

Hi, I just joined my fitness pal yesterday. I was fairly skinny prior to becoming a professor, 10 years in I've gained 100 pounds. I exercise a lot - even play ice hockey - but I eat too much sugar, and seemingly have to not eat at all to lose weight. So I'm making a public commitment and asking for some help and support to change my eating habits permanently. But I want to do so in a way that is not obsessive. I don't want to have one cookie and then pig out for the rest of the day because I ate that cookie. I want to be physically healthy (husband is having health issues which makes it more important to be healthy for my kids) and also mentally healthy. I'm not religious but work hard to be kind and live in an environmentally sustainable manner. I guess I just want accountability with my eating and to make a network that helps with that. Let me know if this seems like a good fit for this group. Cheers, Clarissa

Clarissa, I'm on board.... Let's check in with each other! How can we better assist you? In my experience, doing "crash dieting" or anything similar does not work.... Can you find a way to start decreasing your sugar intake with something alternate? For me it has been frozen grapes.... the red ones. For some reason, when I freeze them it brings out the sugar taste to them, when I'm craving something sweet I dive into those. But like with the Easter weekend, I dove into the chocolates, but I myself set myself up for failure as I bought them! BUT now I'm back on track today and ready to move forward.....0

I hadn't thought about frozen grapes but maybe I'll try bringing some into work. With all the new data out there about excess sugar and health I'm really trying to cut down. If I don't have sweets for a few days then I seem to not want them. But then if I have some (like say, on Easter, and the day after Easter because everyone and their mother brings in candy to work so it isn't at their house) it is hard to cut back again. I think my biggest problem is that I'm REALLY hungry a lot of the time. I wasn't hungry last night when I brought a bunch of teenagers to a movie. They all got popcorn, candy, soda and not only did I not have any, I didn't really want any because I had just eaten dinner and was full. So I guess that is the question for everyone - other than doing gastric bypass which I really don't want to do - how do you stop being hungry? I don't think when I'm hungry, I just eat.0
