We are having our Easter event at work tomorrow, there will be lots of food, and no all of it will be good for me. I just need some coping tips? I normally just eat wat ever, but now I can't.

Eat vegetables and protein, Foods to avoid,
Potatoes
Pasta
Rice
and breads and cakes made with White enriched Flour. Complex Carbs are the best choice.
I know that sounds hard but when you approach it knowing what to avoid it is easier. There are usually lots of choices available.
That said one small foil covered Chocolate Easter egg will not kill you but a four pound chocolate Easter Bunny might.0 -
You're right that potlucks can be difficult. I like to bring something that I feel comfortable eating, and usually everyone else likes it as well. Take a minute to look at all of the different types of foods and decide which ones you want to eat, which to avoid completely, and which to have a very small taste. The fun thing about a potluck is that there is a lot of choice and variety, and no one will notice if you skip some of the foods. ~Lynn /Glucerna0

Thanks, I'm looking forward to the fun, but not the temptation. I will really have to decide what is worth it and what is not. Thanks for the reminder that no one will notice, and lots of people know I'm diabetic now too. I need to stop and think like you said before I just dive in.0

Like GlucernaBrand said, take something that you will be comfortable eating. Worst case scenario, you end up eating just your own dish. In situations like a potluck I try to not worry so much about fat so if someone brings a 7 layer salad I will have a large portion of that rather than a pasta salad. If someone brings veggies and dip, dig in (but go a little light on the dip).0

Make sure you take something healthy that you can eat then pick and choose among the rest. I like to focus on the fruits and veggies and try to avoid the pastas and salads that are made with heavy dressings. If you end up eating a little more than you should, cut back on the next meal or just get back on the band wagon the next day.0

Well, I didn't do too bad at the potluck, I think. I probably had a little of what I shouldn't, but way different than I used to. Lunch was mostly, raw veggies and chicken, and I did have some potato salad. Not bad and not stuffed. I'm proud of myself0

We're proud of you as well! I'm glad you thought about what and how much to eat and feel good about those choices. You're making a great start at managing diabetes. ~Lynn /Glucerna0
