My "plan" today (why do I even bother?) is to run, mainly because my backup shoes that I wear to the gym are still wet from the rain (no clothes dryer), so as long as I'm wearing the good running shoes, might as well run. I need to pick something up at the mall so I'm going to try to run there and do it. It's not far, but it'll be alot of backstreets/neighborhood I'm not familiar with, but would like to learn and it'll be a new path which is always very distracting and makes the time go fast and the run much more exciting.

k, gotta go. HAVE A GREAT ONE!

Hope your "plan" works better today than it has been lately Sherry!

I've got Pilates tonight, then I have to go get in the run I blew off last night. I have new shoes that I've been waiting to use until it clears up outside, but since it was snowing again last night and is supposed to rain/sleet/snow all week I'm using them tonight. I deserve something pretty if I have to run on the treadmill. LOL

Okay, I need a map with topography on it!! Hills, hills, hills!!! Ugh!

So, I got stuck dragging lil girl to the tutor, but DH met us there shortly. I ran to the mall and it was an extremely hilly route (up and down). What was worse was that the sidewalks were bad or missing. But, I got to the mall and got goodies for everybody and made my family very happy; stuffed it all in my pack and ran back and had souvlaki with DH and lil girl.

I also saw the big branch of my gym, which is right next to the mall (and huge). AND it is exactly the new distance that I want to run to the gym from now on--but all those hills and bad sidewalks! I'm going to try to find a better route and maybe I'll end up running to that gym on the weekends.

Congrats on the new shoes, Laura. New shoes was always such a big deal when I was little, it still feels exciting every time.

The hills you can get used to - the bad sidewalks are just a hazard.

Hope you got through the treadmill running and that the new shoes helped, Laura. Also hope that Spring comes soon and stays!

Glad that you got the run in, Sherry.

Did my run to the trainers and back today. It's pouring rain here and will be for days according to the predictions. It's also 45 F. Not really a problems as the raincoat adds a decent amount of warmth. With shorts and a light t-shirt I'm fine. I have two rain "coats" that I run with. One is a very bright yellow coat that I bought 30 years ago when I crewed on a racing sailboat. I haven't been able to wear it for most of those 30 years because it was too small, once I got too big. It was really expensive though and excellent quality. There are bib overalls that go with it and I kept both. The other is a very lightweight rain poncho that works when it's about 10-20 degrees warmer and raining. On the way to the trainers I ran a little more than usual because I swerved around areas so as not to get my feet wet. On the way back, I was really tired and sore! I even missed a turn and had to back up several yards to do it. I found it funny that I managed to miss turning when I should have because I was just so zoned out running.

Now I'm looking at 5 days of busy busy busy and having to squeeze in exercise 10 and 15 minutes at a time.

Laura, you are absolutely right about the sidewalks. There is a direct route there along a hwy that probably has good sidewalks, but it wouldn't be as long of a route as I'm wanting. Might try it, just to try that gym out anyway, but honestly I'm kinda fond of the familiar faces at my regular gym.

Donna, how nice that you are all outfitted for running in the rain. I got a very nice, cheap poncho type thing when I visited the US, but have learned running in rain is just not a possibility here. The city is constantly covered in weird city silt and as soon as it gets wet it turns to slippery slime. The asphalt isn't too bad (but you end up getting splashed by passing cars), but I normally run on sidewalks and they are so slippery, even hard to walk on (and the marble and stone walks in Plaka are downright dangerous even if you spit on them!). Of course that's talking about normal rain, not the buckets we got the other day, that was crazy! Off every curb was a river of water so wide that there was no way to keep our feet dry. DH had to take dry shoes to my son at the tutor when he picked him up. I think mine are finally dry today. ugh. Soooooo glad that the dry season is on it's way. Athens can go months without any rain in the Summer. Lots of outdoor businesses and activities.
