^Has been one of the greatest rewards of the changes I have made!! I know, without a doubt, that I have altered my children's paths by simply being an example with regard to taking care of your physical fitness. Sometimes I think my little girl will grow up to be a personal trainer, with all of the running and exercise she practices. She's so cute when she randomly gets out the "yogurt mat" and unrolls it and does some pushups and jumping jacks and supermans and then rolls the "yogurt mat" back up and puts it away. haha!
Well, my plan was to do another run because yesterdays felt so good...but alas we got a call for a casting for my son. I'll take him straight after school, and if there is still time, and DH will agree to help son with his homework afterwards, I *might* be able to run or hit the gym--but I might be pushing it for time with dinner and everything. :frown:
Hope everyone else has a great one!0 -
Hello!!
I am Maureen, some of you might remember me, I use to post here. I seem to come...and go...and come...and go. lol I guess I just seem to have a hard time balancing everything in life and posting sometimes just gets put off. However, of all the MFP groups that I have been in or checked out....this one seems to be the most supportive and motivating. I hope I can come back
It hasn't been a great winter for me, I have really struggled, mostly with eating/weight moreso than the exercise. I am still running, and with the weather finally getting nicer I am really getting the fever to "up it" and get serioius. I need to lose about 20 lbs so the eating habits have to change. Mostly after supper snacking and picking.
Anyway....
Sherry - sounds like you are doing well with the running! WTGtoo bad about the wet running shoes. Dh always put crumpled up newspaper in his when they would get really wet.
Laura - those rainy gloomy days are just that....gloomy! I hope you are having a sunny one today. Good that you are listening to your legs.....and taking the day off from running.
Diana - keep on working on the ab hold....it will get easier! Just reading your post makes me want to get back into my strength workouts, I have not been doing them as much.
Yesterday I ran on the trail here, its really the old railroad which they have made into a big long trail, called Rails to Trails. So...it gets kind of boring, but I don't run there often so might try it again today.0 -
Hi Maureen! Welcome back! You and I definitely have the eating/weight struggle in common. I seem to be able to keep up (mostly) regular exercise, but the eating has been a difficulty. Last month I did a teensy bit better and so far this month also a teensy bit better. It's the slow way, but better than the alternative. I have problems with night snacking after the kids go to bed and I made a thread in the forums and got some great ideas. Now, I'm eating less at dinner so I (hopefully) have more calories at night when I can enjoy them. It works on days that I've been careful throughout the day. Of course building up the running miles helps give me extra calories too. "I run to eat mohr!" haha Unfortunately we've had some rain lately (including today) and don't have a clothes dryer & the radiators are already off for the season. So, I put my shoes behind the tv and they dry a little faster there--but I'm pretty sure they were too wet for newspaper, they were squishing! haha
Yeah, so no workout because I ended up helping son with homework after the casting (in fact, he's STILL working on it--lots of dawdling when he must do it at home vs. tutor's--and he'll have to miss taekwon-do AGAIN...grrrr). It was rainy this afternoon anyway.
Oh yeah, I did get an offer to be in a commercial casting! haha, I said no thank you, but it felt nice that they thought I could be on tv (unless if the part was "ugly woman #1"! haha)0 -
Maureen! Nice to hear from you again! I don't recall where you live, but this winter was brutal for a lot of us. I still have snow in my yard. It makes it hard to keep motivated for anything.
Sherry were you at all tempted to try out the commercial casting? Could have been fun!
Assuming it's not raining (it's been sprinkling on and off today although I think it's supposed to clear up) I'm going to run after work. Aiming for 4 miles with hill repeats, but it's still part of my "run what feels good to me" week so we'll see what happens. I do want to do the hill repeats. The 4 miles may or may not end up being 4 miles. I have my running gear in the car and plan to stop at my sister's and run from her house, just for a change of scenery. She lives in a small town between where I work and where I live, and i grew up there so I know the area well. I ran a 5K there last summer and there was a pretty big hill right in the middle of the route, so I'm going to use that for my hill repeats.0 -
Just checking in quick today as I'm not feeling too well. Woke up this morning with a killer head ache! Thought maybe I had slept funny as my neck was sore too, but now it's kind of moving into body aches, so I think I'll be heding home from work early. Did my workout last night and was really happy at how much I was able to push myself.0

Well got my run in, although my legs were feeling tired and heavy for the last half. I ran on the trails.....and I do find that harder than the roads. I also got in some lunges and squats when I got back (after a rest). I am feeling motivated with my eating, and am determined to make it another good day. Posting here helps
Laura - I am in Nova Scotia, and parts of the province did get some snow in the past couple of days, but FORTUNATELY my area was not one of them! phew. I can't imagine still having snow on the ground in may. Hope you can get your run in.....all 4 miles and hills too. I haven't gone out to do a hill run in awhile. I guess last time would have been on the treadmill.
Sherry - it is great to hear that you have been doing better....bit by bit. Nothing wrong with that at all. It still gets you to the same place in the end! My dinner tonight will be a homemade ground turkey burger, whole wheat bun and veggies. Quick and simple tonight I guess!
Just back from the hairdressers with color and shorter hair. Feels so good0 -
Diana hope you're not getting sick!
Maureen great job getting your run in, and lunges & squats on top of that! Your dinner tonight sounds delicious!
Between my long run on Sunday & my trainer workout last night, my legs already were sore and tired when I started my run. The first mile I just generally felt stiff but once I warmed up it was fine. It didn't help that it was pretty cold out - was only 43F (6C) and very windy. Got in my 4 miles and my hill repeats though and once I loosened up it felt great. It started lightly raining when I was at 3.75 miles, which feels great when it's cool out and you're running straight into a strong wind. I finished up my 4 miles in a good time (for me) and had an 8 minute cool down walk back to my car. It was still sprinkling and I was still heading into the wind so I didn't dawdle, but I do like to get in at least some kind of cool down walk or my legs cramp up later.0 -
Glad you got the run in Laura. Also glad that you didn't hate it. Hope you're not too sore tomorrow.
Maureen, sounds like you're restarting with a bang! I have friends in Nova Scotia. I love going up there and usually manage it every three years or so. I'm hoping next year to maybe do the "Not Since Moses" run on the way up and then visit Halifax for a bit, but I may have to change plans. My mother is talking about visiting Calgary and Banff and would like some company. That would take most of my vacation time.
Hope you feel better, Diana. I got hit really hard by Spring and a huge load of pollen released at the end of last week. Caused a horrible headache that I couldn't shake. Glad it's over now and hope it's over for you too!
Nice being asked to model, Sherry!
Ran to my trainer workout today. I did the same workout as last week. He has me doing the same workout every week for a month and then changes it for the next month. There are three sets. Each set has three exercises. And I'm to do each set three times. This month, I don't seem to be able to get all three done three times within the half hour I have to do them. Last week I only did the middle routine twice as it was really really hard and took me longer than it really should have. This week I managed to get through it all three times, but there were breaks and slowness and I admit some whining. I didn't have time to do the third set completely, so only did two of the exercises, but did get through them three times. The exercise i didn't do was added to my homework for this week. Last week was homework free, just running, but this week I have it and I must do it to stay up to where he wants me to be. My goal next week is to complete all three sets three times, which means being more competent on the middle set. I must do the homework!!0
