Returning to paleo

Hi my name is Joy I decided to live the paleo lifestyle in November 2013 and did a whole 30 in January. I tried paleo because I was desperate to get some relief from fibromyalgia. It worked and I had never felt better but after the whole 30 old eating habits crept back in and I realised I hadn't got rid of my sweet tooth at all. I have a history of binge eating disorder and need to get out of this mentality, I have 3 kids and want to be a good example to them. Although I did well with paleo before I still ate a lot of fruit and I am trying to reduce that this time. I need to kick the sugar habit even though it's natural sugar it still has a negative effect on me. As well as fibro I also have IBS, oesophagitis, candida overgrowth, migraines, multiple food intolerances and a benign brain tumour. I can't afford to mess about with my health any longer. I have 3 kids with special needs who need me. Looking for support and friends I want to do this for life this time. Considering another whole 30 but my birthday and my twins birthday falls right in the middle of it. That shouldn't be an issue but my hubby likes to eat out for our birthday and my twins expect cake (although I won't eat it) I am excited to be back.

Hi feel free to add me, I have a family member with fibro and basically all the other fun things you have as well as plenty more health problems who is primal. I also use primal/paleo to help my health I had chronic back and neck issues for 11 years prior to going paleo. I have been primal/paleo since 2012. I also have issues with sugar.

Reducing carbs is a great path, particularly for the neurological issues. You might also want to check out the ketogenic way of distributing micronutrients. Basically, you eat enough protein to maintain lean mass, enough non-starchy carbs to get the micronutrients while staying in ketosis, and fill the rest in with fat. It's been used for decades to treat seizures, and studies have shown that it's great for a large number of other neurological issues.

This, this, and this. This eating plan should resolve pretty much everything but one may need to tweak for best results (for example nightshades for joint problems).. I hope you find your path, Joy. (hint: get rid of excuses. There will always be birthdays, special events, night out at a restaurant. There are many ways to enjoy this lifestyle AND life events. Live events shouldn't be all about the food, and if it is, just make better choices. For me, I never eat wheat. No matter what. Never.)

Another thing (to add to what everyone is saying), and this is kind of my mantra right now: Don't let perfection get in the way of progress. If you have events that you imagine deviating from plan on, maybe, right now, you could give yourself permission to do so, but just be on plan the rest of the time. The way this works for me is that, mentally, I'm not stressing so much about "Oh, what will I do when...?" The worst case scenario will be that you eat something not on plan. Hopefully, you will completely enjoy it. And if it happens to make you feel sick, well, that's not so bad either, because it will just reinforce that you don't want to feel that way and remind you of what you should be eating to avoid that feeling.

I totally agree with this! Don't get down on yourself about being perfect.

    HI Joy.

I was part of your January whole30 group. I have fallen off the wagon big time and need to get back on track too. :-(

I really enjoyed the whole30 while I was doing it. I think I just got lazy and haven't been doing all the shopping and cooking I need to do to make it work. Also excuses....excuses...excuses. This month I have my birthday and out of town guests and vacation!

But mayne I can stick to paleo until the 21st at least.

We can get back into it together. Sent a friend request, we can do this. I am now going away for a few days in the middle of my whole 30, I am also taking my daughter to a Katy Perry concert. I will stick to it though even if it takes planning.
