Good Morning!
Yesterday ended up being a non-exercise day, that was 2 in a row for me this week. Got home from work late, so opted to take another day off and get supper going instead. I am enjoying my BBQ, we have just started using it again this year. So good, had greek chicken, rice and asparagus/carrots/broccoli.
Finally got out for a run this morning, 6K on the tracks. Had a pretty good pace going, I have been running very slow this spring compared to what I normally run. So, that made me feel good. I might do a bit of toning exercises with my hand weights.
The rest of the day for me will be cleaning up the shack and maybe getting into some bookwork.0 -
I have so much to do this week!! Didn't get my run in yesterday and only got done about half of the chores I needed to do. Deadline is Thursday evening. I have got to be on the road, with everything packed for 10 days and nothing forgotten by 6 pm. Even that won't get me to my first hotel until 1 am, so earlier would be even better. I'm planning to attend the board meeting (must have the paperwork); do earthdog, agility, obedience, rally obedience, and Colin is doing conformation (must NOT forget Colin's dumbbell!); run 2 games (plastic eggs, nosework supplies, stuffed animals); and secretary the earthdog trial in NJ that comes immediately after (computer, paperwork, printer, maybe new printer ink?, checks). Also, of course I need clothes to run in, clothes to compete in, and clothes to travel in, and clothes to hang around in. We're renting an RV, so I should bring a place setting and some food to get started with, and bedding! Must not forget bedding! And don't forget the dogs and their food and supplies. Plus, the things my Canadian friend had mailed to me to save on out of the country postage need to be packed in as well.
So I must pack. I need to get my hair cut. I need to pick up embroirdered stuff for the flyball team (because of course that is ready for pick up now!) and get it and the flyball balls to a teammate so that it doesn't go on the trip with me when they need it for the Memorial Day tournament that they are attending. I need to get the prize for the award I'm giving out at the awards dinner (for the most creative dog screw up in agility last year -- named after my dog Harry who once did an entire course running backward while barking at me and that was just one example). I need to get to the trainer workout tonight as I have to skip next week and don't want to do two weeks in a row. I don't need to go to the dog classes tomorrow, but really would like to, but just can't see getting time. And I have to sleep! It's been a few days since I've had a full night's sleep (well almost a week now) and I can't drive tired and do this drive. Maybe I should take Thursday as a vacation day. Would rather not, but I don't see any way of getting more time.
Sorry about the long post. As far as exercise, trainer tonight, and I will get at least 30 minutes running, ideally I will run to and from the workout, but if it gets as hot as predicted today, I will probably run in 10-15 minute pieces.
CVS called, I need to pick up a prescription.0 -
Donna I think taking a vacation day on Thursday sounds like the most sane thing you can do! I am laughing out loud at Harry running backward & barking at you. I take it that wasn't part of the plan?
Maureen I have been a lot slower this spring than I was last fall (and I ran all winter!) although that finally seems to be turning around.
This morning's run was speed intervals out at the high school track. I did 3 laps to warm up, then 6 intervals of one lap running fast & one lap running slow, then a final lap to bring me to 4 miles. This was my first outdoor speed interval workout (tried it on the treadmill one day and that felt like a disaster) and I discovered I liked it. Jason gave me the option to do a timed version on the road but it was nice to be on the track where I just had to look for the start line on the track and not worry about watching the time. I have Pilates tonight after work, which I'm really looking forward to.0 -
Maureen, bbq-ing sounds great. We haven't bbq'd since we moved to Greece (unless you count an occasional Easter lamb roast on the spit) and really miss it. Either we're in the city where there's no good place to do it, or we're on a very windy, dry, & very wildfire-prone island and wouldn't dare think of it (it is a very serious thing here). We used to make the best steak salads.
Donna, wow, that sounds like alot of work. I agree with Laura that taking that day off sounds like a really good idea. All I can say is "good luck" and "don't forget to have fun". You're amazing for still taking workouts into consideration.
Laura, those speed intervals sound like just the thing. I usually get too bored on tracks or straightaways, but doing intervals would be great on a track. I get nervous to go too fast due to all the broken sidewalk, etc . I wish I had a track to use. There is one near here at an athletic center, but I think I have to sign-up or something. I should probably go find out.
Well, today, DH worked even later, so I took both kids to drop-off son and waited. By the time DH got there, it was a bit late and the wind had kinda left me. I decided to run just 30min, BUT 10min in I passed a pet store and remembered that we desperately needed special food for our older cat (forgot it yesterday) and the store was going to be closed when I finished---so all I got done was that 10min today. smh. Will just have to do better tomorrow.0 -
Life keeps getting in the way of your good intentions, Sherry! But I'm sure the cat appreciates you stopping for food!
The track at my local high school is quite nice. Not sure what the surface is, but it's a lot softer than concrete/pavement. Some kind of composite material - almost like a hard rubber. And as a bonus it's typically pretty empty at 5:30 am.0 -
Laura, I know the track material you're talking about. That's really nice. That's one thing I really miss about the US-- public school tracks/fields and neighborhood tennis courts, etc. There's nothing like that here. The schools are gated and don't have athletic facilities anyway, and there are no neighborhood tennis courts, etc. There are basketball courts near one of the playgrounds, but that's about it. The track at the facility near us is really nice (I checked it out for a program for my son one time), but you have to join and pay I think (for the children's program anyway) and I think it is a national team training facility (so it has basketball, judo, track, swimming, etc), but it probably has strange hours like everything else in this country and I think the athletes always get priority, so idk if it'd work for me. It's also next to a tennis club (but again, it's something you have to join like a country club--and pay mucho). It's been so difficult to navigate all this stuff here--it's why I like that I can just go outside and start running. But judging by the hot weather lately...idk how much longer I'll be able to do that either. The heat is draining. Might have to switch to swimming.

That's disappointing. Yeah there are a couple of tennis courts less than half a mile from my house. In addition to the high school track there's a dirt (but full sized) one at an elementary school. I started out there because it was closer to my house, although my shoes got really dirty. Still it's an option.
In addition to my run this morning I walked with my friend (who power walks) at lunch and did Pilates after work, so it was a good activity day! Just trying to figure out what I need to pull together for tomorrow and then I can go to bed.0 -
Hey everyone. Just checking in to let you know that I'm still alive! lol. My headache is much better, but need to get the muscle problems all worked out before I can get back into my workouts, so I've just been doing a bit of walking in the evenings.0

Diana, hope things get better for you. I know how much it stinks to miss workouts.0

Yes, it does suck. I stepped on the scale this morning and it's showing me a loss for the week, which isn't much of a surprise since the pills the doc gave me upset my stomach and I basically lost my appetite. But we'll see come Friday as that's my official weigh in day.
A year ago, I never thought I would really care if I missed a workout or not. I had always thought it was "obsessed" people who got upset when that happened. But not being able to work out for over a week now is very frustrating. I find myself feeling very lazy and my body is craving a good sweat! I have another massage booked tomorrow afternoon and I know that will help immensely! I will see how I feel a couple days after that before I get back into it again.0
