Hi all! I was curious, is there a difference between compulsive overeating and binge eating? I googled it but couldn't really find any difference, so I'd like to know your opinions on this. In my opinion, I think binging is a more out of control behavior and mindset, while compulsive overeating is just mindless munching. What do you think?

I think compulsive overeating is the desire to eat constantly (compulsively), while binging is more episodic. A compulsive overeater might eat nonstop for a week, whereas a binge eater would binge once every day or several days a week
  • To echo the above, I think compulsive over eaters will probably eat lots on a regular basis.
Binging is more an episode of overeating. - perhaps being caught in a cycle of binge, restrict, exercise etc.

I also think you aren't necessarily one or the other. I'm recovering from bulimia and my relapses can be either compulsive overeating or binges. When I compulsively overeat, I tend to eat without meals through the day(s). When I binge, I eat normally/restrict through the day, then binge.

That fits me to a T - binge, followed by days of restrictive eating. And of course, I run 70 miles or more a week.
