Hello friends! I had my sleeve done a week ago today. Since then, I feel great. Energy is good. I'm not tired or winded. I feel normal save for the laproscopic surgery wounds are still a bit sore. Anyhow, when I got home, my weight was 306, this morning it was 284.5. Is such a big loss initially normal? I'm getting all my protein and water and eating my 2 to 3 ounces of soft food per meal as advised. I was expecting more along the lines of 20 lbs in a month, not in a week!

Right after surgery, there is a alot of swelling and fluid buildup, especially from the IV's and painkillers. I'd think it's just your body flushing all that out. It does sound like alot (mine was around 10lbs), but everyone is different. If you aren't having any other symptoms of complications I wouldn't worry about it too much.0

That is great. Glad you feel great. 20 lbs is amazing. Don't worry about it. But also don't expect it to continue that way forever. After my surgery I figured I'd lose 20 lbs every week and called my nutritionist in tears when it slowed to 5 lbs a week. If you feel good, don't stress. If you feel awful and can't keep food down AND lose 20 lbs a week...then call your doctor.0

I was swollen the first day that I was home, but since then, not so much. I think I'm pretty realistic in my expectations. Which is why I was so concerned about the weight just falling off like it has been. I think once I am back on solids things will regulate!0

I think you are probably okay, but if you are concerned or need more info about what is normal post-surgery, call the office and ask! Now is the time0

I do have my post op appointments tomorrow. I will ask my surgeon then just to make sure. Sadly, I'm guessing all this weight is coming from my boobs. :-) lol!0

Everybody is different, however I find that most people seem to lose the most in the first 6 months or so. You have to think that you are going for something like 3000 calories a day down to maybe 600 or so. A a pound of fat contains approximately 3500 calories. This means that you are losing something like half a pound a day! You'll most likely see fantastic weight loss for a few months assuming you get all your protein and liquids in. But it will be being to level off, and possibly even plateau. It happens to us all. Just enjoy the ride while you can!0
