Emotional Rollercoaster

Some background: I have bipolar disorder and panic disorder. For years, I've had it under control with medication and therapy. Lately my emotions have become, the words of my doctor, "amplified." In other words, I want to cry almost all the time and when I don't feel like crying, I have a feeling of rage that is so strong that I slammed my fist on the table at knitting classes because my work fell off the needle. It was three small rows which is nothing.

Now that I'm on MFP, I eat right and exercise so that's not an answer. We've been through many types of medication without success.

Yesterday he suggested acupuntrure. He's seen patients have success in the past with it. Has anyone here tried it? Did it help?

I went a long time ago for something different and it helped but it's expensive and time consuming but if it works, I'm all for it.

Nancy sorry to hear that you are struggling.

I've had acupuncture a few times for running injuries as well as depression and had very positive results. Different things work for different people. Fortunately my extended health insurance covers it.

Have you tried lavender aromatherapy? Here some info on it:

Lavender is commonly prescribed by aromatherapists to help reduce stress, anxiety, insomnia and
mild depression. It is often referred to as a mood balancing herb that possesses a sedative and calming
effect. It can also have an uplifting, refreshing and rejuvenating effect on the psyche. Lavender
pillows, eye pillows, bath salts and floral waters are a wonderfully easy way to enjoy the soothing
effects of lavender aromatherapy. All you have to do is relax, breathe in the scent, and enjoy!
There is nothing difficult or complicated about it. If you haven't experienced the wonderful
effects of the scent of lavender for yourself, get shopping! There really isn't anything like the fresh,
    potent scent of lavender.

Sending you lots of positive vibes, be kind to yourself through these stressful times.

    *hugs*

    First, I'm sorry.

Second, I come from a family where alcoholism, suicide and dysfunction are prevalent.

I have found eating a high fiber, whole foods based diet to be vital to my maintaining an even keel.

There is a good book titled "The Diet Cure", which has a regimen of diet and supplements to combat some of the problems you described.

So it turns out that acupuncture has worked wonders on my emotions and even got rid of a wicked migraine so I'll stick with it for now.

I highly recommend it for anyone who is struggling with uncontrollable emotions caused by hormones.

Well done! Out of curiosity: where did they put the needles? I went once, and while I had a fabulous nap (the best nap in ages) whilst it was going on) I wasn't quite sure what I thought of the process, as they were only in my extremities and head (though I'd complained of lower back pain and peri symptoms).

I usually get about five in each foot (including my little toe), a couple on the top of the hand, one inside my wrist and a couple on my face/head.

I'll see if my acupuncturist will take a picture of me with the needles in me on Sunday. I won't post it on the boards because some people are sensitive about needles but I can either upload it to a photo sharing site and share the link or mail it to people.

Nope this makes sense. It's what they did with me as well. Thanks. Just wasn't sure if it was "standard". It really was the best nap I've ever had. I should go back.
