So, was off to a great start on Medifast and on day 3 my weight went up .4. No biggie, I thought, since I know I followed the plan and 've been measuring. Then I wake up and weigh again this morning only to be at the same weight again! Ugh! What could I have done wrong??? Well, I track my meals on myfitnesspal and I was staying between 80-85 carbs. I started looking over my food diary and realized I was logging the Caramel Nut bar as a choc caramel bar. The difference was 9 carbs!!!! These last two days I was actually at 92 carbs instead of 85!!!
So beware- the caramel nut bar that I love so much has 22 carbs, not 15 like most other meals.
Just thought I'd share!!!!

Thanks. I am on a stall now too! In week 2, of all things. I will check out my carbs and see if I can figure it out. I don't have the caramel bars, but I love those peanut butter bars!!0

From what I understand the carmel nuts bars are ok during the weight loss phase as long as you only eat one a day. And you do have a little more leway on carbs. The goal is between 80 and 100 a day. I am usually between 85 and 95 and I have still been loosing so I'm not sure that it's the carmel nut bar that is causing the problem. Don't get discouraged. Have you been drinking enough water? Also have you been keeping track on your sodium? The one day I went up when I went back and looked at my sodium for the day it was through the roof! That will make you retain water. Just suggestions for you. Overall, don't get discouraged. And you can keep eating the carmel nut bar. Maybe try doing it every few days though for a bit until you break this stall.0

I know I could stand to up0 my water intake. I'm working on that! My sodium is all over the place from 1300g to 2300g. How much sodium should I be monitoring for?0

As long as you're under the 2300mg you should be ok. I try to keep mine under 2000mg just to be safe.
Increasing your water should help. I drink a minimum of 100 ounces a day. It was suggested to me that I drink at least as many ounces as half of my body weight. I think it's been a huge help. I'm down almost 21 pounds in 5 1/2 weeks.
What helps me is to keep a water bottle full of ice water at my desk instead of a soda or something. I personally won't drink water unless it's ice cold so the fact that this is makes me want to drink it. And every time I get up to use the restroom, which I will not lie is often, I refill the bottle. I drink as much as I can while I'm at work that way I can sleep at night!
Whatever you do, don't give up! I saw the scale go up .5 one day a few weeks ago and I almost cried. It stayed that way for about 2 days and then next morning I was down 2 or 3 pounds.0 -
You might also take a look at the sodium guidelines from the CDC. It is different based on age and other factors:
www.cdc.gov/salt/pdfs/Sodium_Dietary_Guidelines.pdf
Quoted from the PDF in the link above: "People 51 and older and those of any age who are African Americans or who have high blood pressure, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease—about half the U.S. population and the majority of adults—should further reduce sodium intake to 1,500 mg per day."0 -
Good call eliztenn!
Bottom line, it looks like this may be a sodium issue not a carb one.0 -
The caramel nut bars are actually a maintenance product. You should not be using this as a medifast meal.0

Thanks! I realized they are a maintenance product because they are in the green wrapper. I purchased my meals from a Medifast store here locally. I wonder why she didn't say anything when she helped me make my selections.0
