Ok, I'm back! Just got back from a very slow 6K, run. Started off very warm with blue skies and ended up coolish and overcast. I am also happy to report a 2 lb loss this week. I have been stuck in limbo at this weight...up and down a couple of lbs all winter. I really would like to think that this time it is going to stick and continue to go down.0

Hi Maureli, for me what changed it up was finally dealing with the things that were causing me to eat! lol
I am going to do mini hike in hills by my house...we have company and it only takes a bit over an hour. I could tell by the flip flops my step daughter wore and said they were her best shoes she brought for walking, this wasn't going to be a exercise with company weekend!!!
So I can slip out for an hour.0 -
Maureen congrats on your loss! That's wonderful!
Marla congrats on your loss you posted yesterday too!
I realized in bed last night I had forgotten to post, but I was too tired to get back up & do it. I'm feeling much better. Got up at 4:50 yesterday morning so I could get in my run before work. Did speed intervals. We had a conference yesterday that the entire office attended (several of my co-workers spoke at it) so that was a lot of fun. After work I saw Jason for a legs/abs workout. I saw Jason again at 7;30 this morning for shoulders & more abs. I did the rowing machine for a bit to warm up (because I knew it was going to be upper body) and have a walk scheduled with a friend at lunch so I can get some steps in.
Hope everybody has a great Friday! Monday is a holiday here in the States so I'm looking forward to a long weekend. Jason wants me to run 14 miles tomorrow (eek!) so I might need two days off to recover from that!
Ines when I started running I used the Couch to 5K program. You run 3 times a week, it never takes more than 30-40 minutes (at least not the program I used), and it starts you out gradually. By the final week (mine was a 9 week program) I was able to run for 30 minutes at a time. I wasn't able to run a 5K in 30 minutes (nor can I now) but still it really got me started in a way that wasn't too threatening. Week 1 you do a warm-up walk, then intervals where you jog 60 seconds & walk 90 seconds. Week 2 you increase from there. Etc.0 -
Hi folks. Sorry, haven't read back yet, I'm fuming so much that my eyes are crossing. Kids have been honest-to-goodness monsters all day and I'm at my wit's end. I skipped the tutor b/c I knew my son was too wild today. Took both kids to the supermarket for a total pantry re-stock ( hauling bags plus a full trolley of sweaty dairy products, with my tantruming lil girl in the other arm). I wouldn't have chosen the day they were being the biggest stinkers except we had nothing, no-thing to eat, at all at home. Anyway, here towards the end they pushed all the buttons and I just put them to bed a couple of hours earlier (far earlier than planned) and thank goodness I'm good on calories for the day because it is a long overdue beer o'clock for me. TGIF, I guess, but in the words of Honest Toddler:Parents feel for Fridays what toddlers feel for Band-Aids: You know it won't really help your situation but it's fun to pretend.
I've been missing my workouts and running pretty bad, but I'm glad to have had this time, to gain this perspective and renew my appreciation for the times I can hit the gym and hit the road. Can't wait for Dh to get back--I might meet him at the front door with my running shoes on!0 -
Sherry you've earned that beer! Sounds like a long, awful day.0

Sherry, enjoy your evening "off", sounds like you really deserve it!
Maureen, congrats on the 2 lb loss!
Marla, hope you've had a nice hike!
Laura, glad you're feeling better and good luck for your 14 mile run tomorrow!
Concerning running: Thanks for the comments, Sherry and LauraI've been walking fast regularly until last year and actually have been in decent shape until about a year ago and am getting there again with the fitnessblender videos (which I still love). It's just running that I've never dared to try since I'm scared of worsening my pre-existing ankle-knee-hip-spine conditions. So it's just a movement and stress pattern that my body is absolutely not used to. I definitely can't just start running but will need to get a professional opinion on whether or not I can do it and how to do it
It's also something which affects anything including jumping or fast start and stop movements, which is why I have to do things like jumping jacks, high knees, mountain climbers etc. with a slightly smaller range of motion and/or a bit slower that I could go otherwise to make the impact more manageable. For example, yesterday I tried doing butt kickers as fast as I possibly could for 20 seconds during one active rest in my relatively light and easy recovery cardio - I usually do them at a pace where the impact is not so high and was really surprised how fast I could go but it's not something that I can do regularly or it'll damage my ankle, knee and hip. We'll see, I hope the PT knows her stuff. And I definitely need to discuss shoes with her as well. I'm thinking if I stick to run-walk intervals instead of going all out, I should be fine. Otherwise, if I get clearance, something along the lines of C25K would be good.
Today's a rest day and I'm actually not doing any exercise so I can give it all I've got for the fitness test tomorrow. Calories are fine so far and should stay within a deficit.0 -
Sherry, they grow up fast, mine are 32 & 35 and I miss them...just spent two weeks with the 35 yr old and already miss her, she and I like to hike together, and drink wine...
I guess its day off, started raining and too hard to get away with company!0 -
Ines hope you can get clearance to run! I find it such a great stress reliever. I may not feel that way tomorrow running 14 miles but in general. ha ha
My friend had to cancel our lunch walk because of a work emergency, but after work I came home and mowed my lawn. First time this year - of course it was snowing as recently as last week. There are a few parts to my yard that don't have grass yet so I was able to do an abbreviated version of mowing, but out of curiosity I turned on my Garmin. I walked 1.29 miles behind my mower. Will have to try it again w\hen I do the entire yard.0
