Does Coconut oil go bad?

I decided to finally try Coconut Oil in my tea. I didn't realize that my unopened jar of Luannes (?) had a "best used by date" of January 2014. Is it still good? Should I buy a new jar and just use this a body lotion?

Best by dates are just that. Best eaten by that time, after which it may degrade. If it smells ok, go for it0

If it smells funny don't use it. I personally would have tried few days and given up if it doesn't feel right.0

If you do not want to risk ingesting it, it does make a great skin lotion. I have also used it as a stay in hair conditioner as I sleep, then wash in the morning.
Some people at work think I'm weird because I throw two tablespoons of the coconut oil in my coffee and use the excess (whats left on the spoon) and rub it on my legs. I get some interesting looks/stares...0
